Facebook or MySpace?

Numerous social networking websites exist, but the two most popular ones are Facebook and MySpace. Both of them are similar in their basic functions. Yet, they are different in some other functions as well. For instance, both of them offer you the same basic messaging capabilities, but the manner in which you add friends on each one differs significantly. Which social network you choose to utilize depends greatly upon why you want to create a profile and join a social network. To choose between Facebook and MySpace, certain considerations should be taken into mind.

Step 1

Know that on MySpace you can add friends simply by navigating to a user's profile-private or not-and click "Add as Friend." You will be added as the user's friend pending that your add request is accepted by the user. On Facebook, you must know a user's email address to add the user as friend, unless you are adding the user through a common friend. Therefore, MySpace is more acceptable for users who are wanting to meet new people and make new friends, whereas Facebook is better for users who simply want to connect with people they already know.

Step 2

Know that Facebook is more "real-life." Facebook is geared more towards people simply talking online to people that they already know than MySpace. MySpace, on the other hand, consists of some users like this. However, MySpace also features a network of users who don't know each other in real-life, but rather just want to communicate with online people. This is especially popular among role players. People who want to engage in online fantasies will find more participants on MySpace than they will on Facebook. Plus, MySpace offers you more the profile customization features required for a graphic-enhanced role play profile than Facebook does. A variety of role playing groups exist on MySpace, from Phantom of the Opera ones to medieval times ones.

Step 3

Know that Facebook doesn't offer the customization features that MySpace does. If you want to have a completely customized and enhanced user profile, then MySpace is your best bet. It is much more difficult to add layouts, graphics and comments to Facebook than it is to MySpace. Moreover, MySpace offers a more enhanced profile editor than Facebook does as well, so if customization is your thing, then MySpace is the place for you.

Tips

Remember than Facebook offers more real-life communication than MySpace, whereas Myspace offers more fantasy and role play than Facebook, although it offers its real-life aspects as well.
