Facebook Numbers in Status Updates Reflect WikiLeaks Mirrors

Jeffrey Weeks
Facebook numbers in status updates have been popping up due to the events surrounding the Wikileaks release of classified US state department documents and the site mirrors that are all over the internet.

Despite the continued attacks on Wikileaks, and the arrest of founder Julian Assange, Wikileaks supporters have built up an army of sympathetic fans on Facebook. This comes after Wikileaks backers began building hundreds of mirror sites as the original websites and urls were denied them.

Facebook has a worldwide community of over 500 million active users. The official Wikileaks fan page has almost 1 million fans. There is at least one anti-Wikileaks Facebook page which only had over 800 "likes."

Facebook has officially said it would not take down WikiLeaks' official Facebook page.

Julian Assange is being held in England. Meanwhile, the Facebook numbers in status updates indicate his cause goes on.
