Facebook Poll: Should Michael Jackson Get His Own National Holiday?

Karen Barnes
Facebook has a poll wanting to know if Michael Jackson should have his own national holiday. At the time of this article there were 125,935 people who have taken this poll if Michael Jackson should have his own national holiday.

Out of the 125,935 people who have taken this poll 114,284, which equates to 90.7%, answered no to the poll. There were 11,651, 9.3% of the pollers, said yes.

There were 12,461 comments on this poll. On the first page, which was ten comments, all ten of these people thought it was wrong to create a Michael Jackson national holiday. Their views on the reason they say no varies. Out of five pages I went through I only found three people who said there should be a national holiday after him.

Many of the commenters of this post had definitely given their opinions why Michael Jackson shouldn't have his own holiday. I went on through some of the other pages of comments and found that those who thought he should have his own national holiday were quite vocal on their reasons for MJ to have his own day.

I can think of several other people who deserve a national holiday named after them, but Michael Jackson is not on the list. Sure he was a singer, dancer, father and other things, but nothing he did stood out enough to warrant event the possibility of why he should have a holiday after him.

While I believe there are quite a few followers of Michael Jackson who believes he should have a national holiday named after him, I believe he should not. I wouldn't be opposed of stamps being dedicated to him in the same manner as Elvis Presley, Princess Diana and so many others who have touched our lives.

Looking down the list of other polls on Facebook, there was another poll about Michael Jackson. This poll was "Should Michael Jackson be the Butter Sculpture at the Iowa State Fair?" There were 9,296 votes on that one. I didn't look at the numbers of who voted what and the comments on this Facebook poll about Michael Jackson. I did have to chuckle a little at the topic of this poll. Michael Jackson as a butter sculpture at a state fair, seriously? I have a couple questions on this but I will not sink to that level and ask those them.

What are your thoughts about this Facebook poll on Michael Jackson having a national holiday named after him?

He was just a guy that sang songs...and there were lots prior to him that were as good or better... Elvis Presley for instance. But just cause they sang songs well doesn't give them the gift of a national holiday for them. However if it continues... MJ shouldn't get one until Elvis does!

Elvis doesn't have a national holiday, but if memory serves me correctly they did make stamps honoring him some time ago.

    Does Elvis have one?

NO WAY! He's not a pope, famous president or scientist that develops cures, etc. He was an awesome entertainer with questionable issues. Build him a museum that is deserving of his talents. We will remember him always & continue to enjoy his music, his legacy.
