Facebook's Car Town Game Application

Aaron Tadeo
There are quite a number of game applications on social networking sites such as Facebook. One of the latest and most played applications, as I've observed in my own network, in Facebook is Car Town. This application showcases small cutesy models of different real-world vehicles. There are quite a lot of things to do but basically, it's an application that tries to simulate a garage.

Let's start off with the garage itself. You can design your own garage by placing service bays, your cars, arcade machines, walls, tiles and so on. You can perform several jobs such as car wash, install a DVD system, do a smog check, and set up a jet engine and more. Jobs take time and when done, you can collect money and experience from it. When you reach a certain amount of experience, you gain a level. As you gain level, you will receive bonuses such as a money, extra worker, expansion, etc. There is also a level mastery for each type of job and as you continue to do that job, you'll gain mastery and increase the amount of money and experience you receive from that specific job.

There are 2 types of coins: the gold and blue coins. The gold coin is the basic money in the application which you can use to buy cars, garage items, upgrades, etc. The same thing goes for the blue coins however, they are much harder to acquire. You will receive a blue coin after each level up, after completing job masteries or if you buy them using real money (credit card purchase).

And of course, there are quite a lot of cars to choose from. They are categorized into classes and their class depends on how powerful the car is. Although they are small and distorted versions of the real cars, their resemblance is uncanny. The good thing here is that you can customize your car. You can upgrade the performance, change tires, choose a paint job, but most especially, you can use your own design.

Another aspect of Car Town is racing. You can race a friend for experience and gold coins. It's pretty simple actually. It's like a drag race where you need to press the button as the gauge reaches the red line. The timing has to be perfect and if you're successful, you'll get a perfect score and you get more race points. You have 3 tries and whoever has the highest race points wins. Don't worry though, your losses aren't recorded.

There are some ranking systems where you can compare your progress to your friends who are also playing Car Town. You can see who has the most wins, highest experience and the highest race score.

So as you can see, it's pretty much the same as some of the game applications in Facebook where you level up, do things and gain experience, etc. It is a challenge though because if you want to level up really quickly, you have to do the short term jobs and you'll probably find yourself clicking every 2 minutes or so. But if you want an application that you can play to pass up time and enjoy at the same time, I suggest that you try out Car Town. As a car enthusiast, I'm really entertained.
