Facebook's Vegetable Gardening Page - a Green Thumbs Up

Deb Martin-Webster
As an active member of the phenomenon called Facebook I look for pages with information on subjects or activities that share my interests. After searching through numerous sites I stumbled on an unexpected resource for gardening; a place where gardeners can share their gardening experiences. Facebook's Vegetable Gardening Page immediately caught my attention. With over 14,000 members World-Wide gardeners benefit by writing and sharing their gardening tips as well as posting photos of their gardening successes and failures. It's an online community giving gardeners the opportunity to exchange their invaluable gardening expertise.

The page is owned and operated by Mike the Gardener Enterprises, LLC located in Burlington, New Jersey. His page attracts both beginner and experienced gardeners. If you should have questions about composting or how to rid your produce of destructive garden pest Vegetable Gardening gives you the forum to share your solutions. For example, this summer I had problems with cabbage worms. I wanted a non-toxic preferably Eco-friendly solution to spray directly on my plants. Within ten minutes of posting my problem I received 10-15 responses, all easy to mix using herbs and spices from the kitchen.

Another reason I like this particular page is that it does not spam you with advertising, unrelated postings nor does it have Facebook games connected to it; just pure and simple gardening information with a wonderful online group of friendly gardening enthusiast happy to share their passion.

Mike's homepage "Average Person Gardening" offers you the opportunity to join his Seeds of the Month club at an affordable rate. Another personal bonus of being a Facebook Vegetable Gardening member is an unexpected birthday gift of seeds in the mail. He also has cool quizzes and contests for his members as well as daily gardening tips and suggestions.

Why Mike's page? Of all of the online communities I've searched on Facebook this page is what I want an online gardening community to be . . . friendly, resourceful, with knowledgeable folks who enjoy getting their hands dirty digging in their gardens.

I never saw this. That is great. I bet you can offer a lot of tips and advice too. Not everyone lives on a farm like you. You are a true professional!
