Facing the Music

Donna Cavanagh
I've noticed that some go through life
Wanting pity and absolution
They moan about how they have been done wrong
Nothing is their fault; they are always victims of persecution

How easy it would be to walk away
From each mistake we make
No responsibility and no consequence for our deeds
A pithy apology is all it would take

Imagine a world where no one had to face the music
Each day was a gift of a new excuse
Could we survive in such a tolerant environment?
What kind of justice would this society produce?

Every day we should reach for forgiveness
For forgiveness heals the wounded heart
But responsibility is also a piece of the puzzle
Without it, our world would fall apart

We get what we give; we reap what we sow
The message of Karma should never be lost
Each word we speak; each action we take
Is never free but comes at a significant cost
