Facts on 5 Teddy Bears and the Company Behind Them

Keith Dailey
Teddy bears have come along way. In fact, some teddy bears date back to 1900. There is proof to this fact because one of the first people to distribute teddy bears was Steiff way back in 1903. She was discovered by a New York company that would make orders of over 3000 bears. She is famous for creating the first black teddy bear to mourn the people who perished in Titanic. Steiff's design are outstanding, and her company knows that very well because anytime she thinks of a new design, they have to produce over 1000 teddy bears just for the stock.

In 1906, a company by the name Gund Teddy Bear Company came up and shocked everyone in the industry. For one, the company flourished for long, unlike other start up companies that went down even before they started major distributions of bears. The Gund Teddy Bear Company aimed higher hence started to rise to the top. The fact that the company was under-stuffed meant that it was very soft hence made it stood out of the crowd.

On the same note, Baby Gund emerged from the Gund Company with a line of extra soft teddy bears for kids. This was after a realization that every kid needs a very soft bear to hold on to and love. Baby Gund began producing tiny, fluffy teddy bears that were specifically meant for a baby to hold. The bears were meant to comfort the baby as they delight in it.

Another teddy bear company was the Boyds Bears. The company came up when G.M. was tired of painting ducks for an antique shop he was running. When his son was born, he developed a desire to design a stuffed teddy bear for the baby boy and this is how the Boyds Bears came to be.

Another company worth to mention is the Russ Berrie & Co. The company started manufacturing bears from a garage space with only $500 to its name. Due to determination and the desire to produce outstanding designs, the company expanded and so did it generate revenue. In 1995, the Russ Berrie & Co produced the "Bears From The Past", a series of all outstanding teddy bears from the past. Today, they produce the most exceptional designs of bears.

There are many other bear companies today, but the above five have stood the test of time to produce the teddy bears you see today. Determination and the desire to put outstanding designs into product is what have made them stand. Each company has a very remarkable story on how they started and where they are today. Without the teddy bears, and innovative ideas, the companies would have fallen even before they started.
