Facts About Chihuahuas
There are many interesting facts that you will find appealing about this breed of dog, especially if you are considering having one of them as your pet companion.
Chihuahuas are smart. They have the largest brain of any breed when compared to the size of their bodies. In addition to being smart, Chihuahuas were considered sacred to the Aztec and Toltec tribes of Mexico. Chihuahuas have great personalities, they are devoted and intelligent, with large eyes and large floppy ears. Their ears perk up when they are alert.
There are two varieties of Chihuahuas, the smooth coat and the long haired. The smooth coat is the most popular. Chihuahuas have small dainty feet that split up but do not spread and the pasterns are fine. Because Chihuahuas are small in size they make great pet companions for people living in small apartments. Their temperament can be ferocious at times. This makes them not suitable to be around small children. However, you will find that your Chihuahua will be loyal and will bond closely to you.
Caring for your Chihuahua
A Chihuahua can live for 16 or more years. It usually should not weigh more than six pounds. To avoid leg fracture do not let your Chihuahua jump from your arms or off high furniture's.
In cool or cold weather, dress your Chihuahua in a warm, sweater or coat. There are many small dog sweaters available in pet stores that are perfect for the occasion.
Feed your Chihuahua several small meals a day instead of one big one. Dry food or a mixture of dry food and soft can food is perfect for Chihuahua.
Enjoy a daily walk with your Chihuahua. You will both also enjoy playing games together with a ball.
Take good care of your Chihuahua, enjoy his or her intelligence, curiosity, devotion, affection and companionship.
