Facts About Coca-Cola

Julie Wenzel
Where was it created and when?

Coca-Cola was created in Atlanta, Georgia in 1886. It was created by a pharmacist, Dr. John Stith. He created this syrup and travelled with a jug of it and had people test it. People loved the syrup and eventually it was mixed with carbonated water.

The original creater of Coca-Cola did not realize just what a great thing he had created, and sold most of the rights before he died.

Coca Cola Became Bottled

In 1894, the product was bottled. However, the flirt actual bottling plant didn't come into production until 1899.

The Olympics

In 1928, of the summer Olympics, Coca-Cola and the Olympics began their association. Vendors came to sell their product to the Olympic fans.

The War

More than 5 billion bottles of Coke were consumed by the military service personel during World War II. Perhaps this helped boost a little morale with the troops!

"Always Coca-Cola" and other Ad Campaigns

Many associate Coca-Cola with this jingle. Do you remember it? "The sun will always shine, the birds will always sing..." Have I jarred your memory at all? Well this was just one of the many advertising campaigns that Coca-Cola came up with. In fact, there are many different types campaigns over the years.

Since I am an advertising major, this part intrigued me the most. The Coca-Cola polar bears was during the "Always" Coca-Cola campaign which was done in 1993. Remember those 3D animated bears? I thought that Coca-Cola did a great job with this campaign. The chill of the snow and atmosphere always made me feel like that Coke the bears were drinking was absolutely cold and refreshing, but didn't those bears warm your heart?

So what were some of the other Coca-Cola campaigns?

In 1971 there was the campaign with the song, "I'd Like To Buy A World a Coke". In 1976 there was the, "Coke Adds Life" campaign and in 1979 there was, "Have a Coke and a Smile."

Now in the 80s it started with the theme, "Coke is It" and to end the 80s the jingle, "Can't Beat the Real Thing".

Right now if you visit their website they are doing the "Coke Side of Life" campaign. Coke Rewards is also a very big part of this. You can put in Coke points from many different Coke products and get an assortment of free items.

Recipes

You can use Coke in many different kinds of recipes. There are beverage recipes, breakfast, desert, and even dinner recipes with chicken that call for a can of Coke. Ever use a can of Coke for a nicely glazed ham? There's also barbeque sauces, cakes, and breads that call for Coke as well.

Types of Coke

There are many different versions of Coke, some of them you may not even have heard of. Here is a list of other types of Coke:

Coca-Cola, New Coke (renamed Coke II), Diet Coke (also known as Coca-Cola Light), Diet Coke Plus, Coca-Cola C2, Coca-Cola Zero, Coca-Cola Cherry, Coca-Cola Cherry Zero, Diet Coke CherryCoca-Cola with Lemon, Diet Coke with Lemon, Coca-Cola Vanilla Zero, Coca-Cola Vanilla, Diet Coca-Cola Vanilla, Coca-Cola with Lime, Diet Coke with Lime, Coca-Cola Raspberry, Diet Coke Raspberry, Coca-Cola Black Cherry Vanilla, Diet Coke Cherry Vanilla,Coca-Cola Blâk, Diet Coca-Cola with Citrus (Lemon and Lime), Coca-Cola with Orange (Out June 2007 in the UK), Tab (known to be the original Diet Coke)

So take your pick of which Coca-Cola is for you.

Actually, some of these are no longer for sale and have been discontinued, or are in other countries.

There is plenty of history behind Coke. And these facts just touch the surface of it. This is a company that is sure to last for many more years to come, which is my opinion. There will always be competition, like Pepsi. But you "can't beat the real thing."
