Facts About the Ferrari F50

Ferrari produced the F50 as it succeeded the popular F40. The F50 is a very high performance supercar and was introduced the public in 1996. Ferrari produced the F50 to coincide with the company's 50th anniversary. There were only 349 of the F50's that were made as Ferrari came up with this number as they made one more than they thought they could sell. The reason they did this was explained by a statement made by a spokesman for Ferrari who stated, "Ferrari's are something cultural, a monument. They must be hard to find, so we will produce one less car than the market." This was an estimation by the company, which turned out to be correct as the list price hovered around a half a million dollars.

The F50 is a two door, two-seat convertible model that has a hardtop that can be removed. The engine is a 4.7-liter naturally aspirated 60 valve V12 that was modeled after the engines that Ferrari used in the Formula One race cars. The engine was actually an early model used in the Ferrari 333 SP in the American IMSA racing series in 1994. In terms of the engine and the power it produces the F50 has Horsepower of 513 @ 8500 RPM and Torque (lb-ft) 347 @ 6500 RPM. It was obviously a car that was built for speed as the gas mileage was not good as the F50 as it gets city 8 (mpg) and highway 11 (mpg).

The F50 was modeled after the Formula Race cars and the makeup of the cars are still used today. The front half of the chassis of the F50's is made up of a carbon fiber monocoque, which holds the passenger and driver. The F50's V 12 engine and six-speed trans axle is in the rear of the car. It can also be seen that the design was inspired by racing cars with its body makeup of titanium, magnesium, and aluminum alloys. The two seats in the F50 come in regular and large sizes and they are covered with Connolly leather. This feature of Connolly leather is the only aspect of the F50, which is generally for luxury cars as the F50 was built for speed and performance rather than for luxury.

The Ferrari F50 was a model that was copied when Ferrari made the prototype F50T. The project was canceled though as Ferrari decided to focus on Formula 1.
