What Are They?
Japanese detox foot pads are pads that contain many different ingredients designed to assist in pulling impurities out of your body. Many of them contain ingredients such as wood vinegar, bamboo vinegar, tourmaline, houttuynia (a plant indigenous to Japan), Japanese medlar, and chitosan. All of the above are used for either their extracting or healing properties. Many of them also include vitamins and antioxidants. They also contain absorbing ingredients such as dextrose, starch, and maltose.
What Do They Do?
The purposes of Japanese detox foot pas is to remove certain waste from the body, and have it leave the body via the feet. It is supposed to draw toxins out of the body that are not removed in normal methods.
How Should They Be Used?
The patches are to be applied to the bottoms of the feet by removing the covering of the adhesive strips on the reverse side of the pad. The patches may also be applied to other parts of the body. However, it is suggested that the best place is on the soles of the feet. This is because there are many nerves that end at the soles of the feet that allow for healing of different areas of the body. The pads should be placed on the feet at bedtime, so as not to damage the pads while wearing them. The pads may also be used on areas of the body that are experiencing swelling or pain, but should not be used on any open sores or wounds.
Pads can be worn for more than the suggested period, up to and including 24 hours. However, a used one should not be reused.
How Often Should They Be Used?
Experts on the subject suggest that the pads be used nightly for a minimum of five hours to remove the toxins from the body. For maximum results, it is best to use them for between 8 - 10 hours. However, this depends on one exposure to toxins in the environment. The nightly application is suggested is until the body is initially clear of toxins. Then it is suggested that they be used no more than once every three to four weeks.
Who Should Use Them?
Anyone can use them that are exposed to toxins. These toxins include pesticides, second hand smoke, alcohol, and even everyday pollutants. They are safe to be used on children as young as 3-years-old.
Who should avoid them?
One of the active ingredients in the pads is chitosan. Chitosan is made from shellfish. Thus, those allergic to shellfish should reconsider using them. It is suggested that a person using them drink the regular suggested 8-10 glasses of water every day. If for some medical reason a person is unable to drink the recommended amount of water, detoxification may not be as thorough. Though the ingredients are natural, it is not suggested that women who are pregnant or nursing use them. Areas of the body that display open wounds should not have the pads applied to them.
