The first layer is the one that comes next to the skin and keeps the body warm and dry. The snowboarding gear included in this layer is a thermal body shirt, depending on the level of temperature, or a regular fleece shirt. However, the thermal option is the best because of the increased level of warmth it supplies. Special socks are part of the first layer of snowboarding gear, and they are essential to keep your feet comfortable. Combine thinner snowboard socks with thicker ones, this combination is optimal, don't use socks that are too tick because the extra heat will make your feet sweat and lose warmth.
The second layer of snowboarding gear is known for the insulation properties, theoretically this layer should keep the warm air inside while releasing the moisture out. The best material to use is the fleece but wool is also a good alternative. The parts used at this level include a light fleece jacket and a pair of thermal pants, which need to be large enough to let you move freely. Snowboarding pants must keep the melting snow from getting to your skin, so choose them carefully. The boots are also special, they will be used with specific bindings that will keep the feet attached to the board.
The last layer is the first protection between the rough mountain and your body, this level of snowboarding gear must be windproof and waterproof while at the same time allowing perspiration leave the body. A beanie or a hat must be chosen as over 90% of the body heat can be lost without this protection. The helmet is an essential part of the snowboarding gear too, since such head protection can really save your life. Protecting your eyes is another priority, so, remember to buy quality goggles that will protect you not only from snow and wind but also from UV rays.
The top outer layer acts as the protection between you and the winter mountain surroundings. With the body heat preserved by the inner layers, the snowboarding gear of the outer layer should allow moisture vapor out, and still maintain an effective barrier by preventing snow and water from going in. This is the part of the snowboarding gear that helps the body 'breathe' with one-way directed moisture. Good jackets and the gloves have to play this part. Quality products usually include Gore-Tex as the material that helps the air circulate while keeping the skin dry and warm, look for products that mention it on the label.
