America is struggling because of the energy crisis and its huge dependency on foreign oil, but what many of us haven't realized is that the U.S. has huge potential in wind energy production. The states on the Great Plains are one of the best regions for wind energy exploitation in the whole world and taking advantage of it would be a great step towards achieving the so needed energy independence.
Of course the investment needed to exploit this energy source is huge, but the amount of energy to be produced and the amount of jobs created can compensate the drawbacks. The biggest player in such a project would be the state of North Dakota. According to the Department of Energy, North Dakota is the state with the greatest potential for wind energy creation. Another important area to look at is the wind corridor that goes all the way from Texas to South and North Dakota.
Besides of the investment needed to develop new technology, build and install wind farms, a substantial amount of money is also needed to create the distribution lines needed to transport the energy created to the end user all around the country. This proves to be a big challenge, but we as a country must undertake it to develop a better energy plan.
Our addiction to foreign oil has become an issue that we must now deal with. We are giving away billions of dollars to countries that don't even like us in order to satisfy our demand for energy. We are financing countries in the Middle East instead of creating domestic jobs that we desperately need in this economic crisis. We now have to decide whether to buy a gallon of milk or a gallon of gas because we can no longer afford both. This is a situation that must stop now.
By investing in wind energy we will be creating jobs in construction, research & development, manufacturing in generators, blades towers and many jobs for the logistics involved in the whole process instead of being funding with millions of dollars nations at the other side of the world.
Not only our economy would grow stronger, but we will also be creating a better environment to us and to our descendent. Climate change is a reality, and it was caused by us in large part by our dependence in oil. We consume approximately 25% of all oil available, and that creates green-house gases that accelerate global warming. Wind energy is efficient, clean and is not too expensive to exploit so it is important that we push for reforms so we and our government can work together towards a greener future.
