Fading Acne Scars: Top Three Treatments to Fade Scars Fast!

K. F. Lynn
Acne is something many of us think is a personal matter: we go to all lengths to try to eliminate it, stop it and cover it up. We do not want anyone to see our skin in such a vulnerable state. But what's more heartbreaking than the outbreak itself, is what gets left behind. An acne outbreak lasts anywhere from 2 to 7 days, but the scarring that gets left behind can last several weeks, even months before it fades. I have experimented quite a bit in the past several months to see what helps the scarring fade the fastest. I have already discussed how to fade scars elsewhere on the body, but acne scarring on the face tend to be much more urgent, and require special treatment - always be careful when it comes to the skin on your face! The following are what I've found to be the top 3 most efficient solutions for helping your acne scars disappear.

3. Fade creams - Ambi, Mario Badescu Whitening Mask. Be forewarned, neither of these products provides fast results, but they do provide results - given some time. These should be used primarily on lighter scarring that can be covered with makeup fairly easily. Ambi is created primarily for the use of people with darker skin, to fade dark spots and even out skin tone, but it can be used on everybody regardless of skin tone. The Mario Badescu Whitening Mask is a little trickier. While you can apply it every day if you wish, I have found that because it is a mask, it works faster if you use it as an overnight treatment. However, it smells quite nice. It does crumble though, so if you sleep with your face rubbing against your pillow, my suggestion would be to apply this at night, leave it on for 20 minutes before bed and then wash it off. Again, neither of these solutions is immediate, but they do work and are fairly inexpensive.

2. Microderm Abrasion - Olay microderm abrasion kit - This is probably the most easily accessible way to help fade acne scars. You can pick the kit up in any CVS, Walgreens or drugstore, but the kit does run for about $40USD. However, for the results you get it is money well spent. You can use this about 2-3 times a week, and in the first week I was able to see results. I had a rough recent breakout on my temples, and this kit started to lighten the scars from it right away. This is a product that I would recommend for people with light to moderate acne scarring.

1. Chemical peels - Now, this is a step that only people with severe scarring should even consider. Severe meaning, it interferes with your daily life and deeply affects your self esteem. These are probably the most effective solutions to your acne scarring problems, but also the most dangerous and the most expensive. On average, these treatments cost anywhere from $80USD to a few hundred dollars, depending upon what formula you require. These peels are performed by your dermatologist, and you should always have a consultation before you get a chemical peel. During a chemical peel, you should expect a slight tingling to a slight burning sensation. Once the process is done, your skin will look rather raw - after all, what you have essentially just done is peel off the top few layers of your skin. For a few days after the peel is done, your skin will have some redness and will peel. This is normal, and is part of the process. However, this process not only helps get rid of the scarring, but also helps combat the acne itself. Often you can see results from these peels right away, as the scarred skin has been removed and the new skin cells beneath them are exposed. For this treatment, remember to always do your research and be certain that you see a dermatologist first to be sure that there are no other options for you. While these peels are costly and do make you somewhat unattractive for a few days, the fast results are absolutely worth the price and the slight discomfort. Remember to always treat your skin with special care after a chemical peel - sunblock, sunblock, sunblock!

Everyone requires a different treatment for the removal of their acne scars. Be sure to start light with fading creams and gels, and work your way up to the more extreme treatments if you do not see any results after a month. Acne scars can be a very personal matter that none of us want to deal with, but remember to always take special precautions with your skin and never jump to an extreme that you don't need. And never forget: always see a dermatologist before making any big decisions regarding your skin!
