Failed Promises from the Ohio Governor's House

I work for the acclaimed DNA Diagnostics Center in Fairfield, Ohio. Our laboratory does seventy-five percent of all private paternity testing in the United States. In addition we are the exclusive tester for Maury Povich, Dateline, Nancy Grace and many others. Most would come to the conclusion that just by hearing these few small details that DNA Diagnostics is the lab to go to, but Governor Strickland didn't seem to think so when he called it quits on the lab's Ohio contract in August of 2009.

It appears that DNA Diagnostic Center was outbid by Labcorp, but as one who works for DDC, I would have to say that stinks. Our laboratory focuses on Paternity testing itself, while Labcorp has its hands in many different areas. It was rumored that Labcorp was combining the paternity testing package with all of its DNA testing services. While our laboratory focuses on paternity testing, we too offer other DNA testing services like Forensics and Veterinary DNA testing. The other thing that Governor Strickland failed to remember, was his "promise to buy products and services from Ohio companies whenever possible", as quoted in the online resource, www.localtechwire.com.

Because of Governor Strickland's decision, our laboratory was led to two rounds of layoffs which in turn created a lot of uncertainty for many of our employees. The president of our laboratory sent a letter stating how she felt about being "outbid", but also cleared up any misunderstanding by reminding Governor Strickland that over the life of the contract, the state of Ohio would be spending $1 million dollars less. There were many pieces of the puzzle that didn't seem to fit, and leaves us wondering why DDC really didn't get the Ohio contract.
