Celebrate Independence Day Early at Fairfax USA Days

Located just five miles from South West Cedar Rapids, Fairfax is a growing suburban community with a rich history dating back to the late 1800's. In fact, the Star Hotel and Livery, constructed in 1870, once housed a saloon and hotel and is believed to have housed Jessie James as he passed through the area. Today, the Star Hotel and Livery is the Star Bar and Grill which will be featuring drink specials and an outdoor grill during Fairfax USA Days.
Thursday, June 25th
Fairfax USA Days begin on Thursday evening with the first round of the Greg Fetter Memorial 10" Softball Tournament held on the main ball diamond in Fairfax. Eight teams are set to participate in this annual tournament.
Friday, June 26th
On Friday evening, Fairfax USA Days features a free live concert near the ball diamond. Edie Piccard and his band will be playing their legendary music live from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. The second round of the Greg Fetter Memorial Softball Tournament and youth kickball tournament will be underway as well. To round out the events held on Friday evening there will be a free movie in the Park at Fetter Field.
Saturday, June 27th
Fairfax USA Days concludes on Saturday, June 27th with a huge amount of events and activities for the entire family to enjoy. Activities begin at 7:30 am with the Fairfax Masonic Lodge 5K Fun Run/Walk. If running is not your thing, grab breakfast at the American Legion on Main Street served by the veterans of the Legion Pekomy Post #572.
One of the highlights of Fairfax USA Days is the Independence Day Freedom Parade beginning at 11:30 am. A fun parade for kids with fire trucks, tractors, old cars, horses and lots of candy. Be sure to bring a bag to keep all the goodies in.
Another Fairfax USA Days favorite is the Kid's Carnival that gets underway at noon. Ten kid-friendly activities are on-hand for free for kids to enjoy including a bounce house, trackless train, rock climbing wall, basketball game and more. Kids can also participate in the Big Wheel Race or get a closer look at the Fairfax fire trucks and lifeguard helicopter.
There are activities to keep everyone entertained throughout the day including Fairfax Idol Competition, bingo, softball tournament playoff and music. Food and concessions are on hand too including th Fireman's Picnic with fresh hamburgers and hot dogs right off the grill or a sit down luncheon at the St. Patrick's Churck. To conclude the 2009 Fairfax USA Days there is a Fireworks Spectacular beginning at 9:30 pm.
Mark your calendar for fun-filled weekend in Fairfax, Iowa. It's a great way to take in the interesting history and the friendly atmosphere of this small Eastern Iowa town.
