If you live in North Jersey and love Fairway in NYC, you have cause to celebrate. Fairway is about to open their new store in the Fashion Center on Rt 17N in Paramus, Bergen County. The official opening on 3/25/09 and from what I saw when I drove around there, it's just about ready and looks gorgeous. There's plenty of parking since it's in the Fashion Mall complex. Some other stores in the Fashion Mall are Lord and Taylor, Bed Bath and Beyond and Best Buy and Toys R Us. Fairway is in the back of the mall, not seen from the entrance from Rt 17N. When you get off at the Fashion Mall go right and under the parking overpass to the back lot and go to other end to Fairway.

Fairway has it's flagship stores in Manhattan, and one store in Brooklyn and another in Plainview, LI. Since Paramus seems to be turning into the shopping capital of the East Coast, it was a good idea for Fairway to open there. I've seen Fairway delivery trucks many times so they must have been delivering to North Jersey for awhile and saw the tremendous interest here for a Fairway of our own. There are now 2 Whole Foods and a couple Trader Joe's in North Jersey so it's high time there was a Fairway too.

If you've been to Fairway in NYC then you know what a fantastic store it is, for produce, prepared foods, health foods, coffee, teas, etc.( their website promises over 600 types of cheese). Of course the store in NYC is a crowded mess but the store in Paramus is nothing like that, it's sleek, new, and bright. I imagine it will be much less chaotic than the stores in NYC and more of a relaxing shopping experience.

Whenever I'm in uptown Manhattan I stop at Fairway to get my fresh loose teas, coffee beans, excellent organic produce, cheeses, olive oil, and whatever else looks good. But then I have to schlep it to my car parked way away in a spot that took a half hour to find. I don't enjoy paying an $8 toll to cross the GWB so I only go to Fairway as a side trip to wherever else I need to be in Manhattan. I am so looking forward to the convenience of the Paramus store, I plan to go there on opening day.

I would go to Fairway just for the very fresh teas and coffees, I love their Russian Caravan tea and haven't found any other like it. There's almost nothing you won't find at Fairway, from cereal to fresh brined olives. If you have never been to Fairway you must check it out, it's worth the drive even if there's a supermarket down your block.
