Looking for a fun and mostly free event for your daughter to dress up like a fairy? Those in Jackson, Michigan, have the opportunity to do just that, but not only for the sake of dressing up. Sponsored by the local pediatric dentist office, Jackson Pediatric Dentistry, the event also draws attention to proper dental hygiene.

The third annual fairy festival will take place on April 24, 2010, at Art 634. Their address is 634 N. Mechanic St. in Jackson, MI.

Children will participate in all sorts of fairy related activities. They can have tea with the fairy queen (in 2010 it will be Rosequeen Cassandra Kramer) and walk through a fairy kingdom. Kids who attend should wear a costume to the event from simple fairy wings to a full fairy princess outfit. Kids will enjoy face painting at the festival and other crafts as well. The author from Urban Fairies will be present with books to sign and information to share regarding urban fairies and fairy doors while selling posters and other fairy related items. Past activities have included a fairy coloring station, decorating fairy flower pots, decorating a fairy tooth box, creating fairy dust and creating fairy garden stakes.

The fairy festival is a unique strategy to bring children of the community together for a bit of fantasy fun while learning about dental hygiene in the world of a tooth fairy. It embraces their imagination and makes the topic fun.

I didn't connect fairies and dental hygeine until I got to the part about the Tooth Fairy. Well, duh! What a great idea!
