Fairy Ring Treatment and Prevention

Although there are no known scientific chemical solutions for the prevention and control of fairy ring there are many homegrown remedies to assist in the growth of a fairy circle.

1. Once a day for 4 to 6 weeks, start off by poking holes in the fairy ring about 2 inches apart from each other the whole way around the ring. Then pour dish soap the whole way around the ring. The soapy water is used because it devises a wetting agent to help the grass roots grow more efficiently, therefore over powering the mushroom growth.

(Please do not spend your money on "cures" from your local farmers market or other stores; in all reality it is dish soap and that is it.)

2. Allow your grass to grow high and resist the temptation to cut it to short. Allowing it to grow will over power the mushrooms growth.

3. You may also try fertilizing your lawn; this allows your grass to grow more efficiently and healthier which in turn will again overpower the mushroom growth. You may do this every 4 to 6 weeks.

4. Removing the ring has in others experiences been the best way to treat this problem. It only last a short period of time of about 4 to 5 years if the food ring it is feeding on is removed. Make sure all of the growths are disposed of away from any grass or turf so the problem does not repeat over again.

5. Some have discovered a way for inhibiting the growth of the circle. They say if you find another circle of a different species to dig it up and mix it with the soapy water mixer and repeat that process. This doesn't cure the circle but will keep it from further growth.

If I had encountered such a problem, I would go with the removal or the circle ring in general; at least you will encounter 4 or 5 years without it, better than none. Consider there is no real cure. Your call I suppose.
