Just like a page out of a storybook, Castle Douglas rises elegantly from the wooded landscape on a hill just east of Dallas. A private road curves through trees and flowers leading to this medieval world where knights and chivalry still live. Overlooking 71 acres in Rockwall County, the breathtaking structure houses a collection of suits of armor, a pub, a ballroom, a chapel, a minstrel's gallery, a bagpiper's balcony, a bride's suite, groom's suite, and a 14 foot cast stone fireplace. The Great Hall holds up to 250 guests and the ballroom accommodates 150.
History of Castle Douglas
The dramatic structure was built in 2003 and is owned by John and Charlotte Dumford. The couple met in a graduate school seminar on Sir Thomas Malory's Middle English version of the legend of King Arthur. Romance bloomed in their common interest of castles and knighthood and the couple was married. After a honeymoon in England in the Thornbury castle, the Dumfords were inspired to build their own castle home right here in Texas and host weddings and special events.
The Dumfords strive to personalize weddings that create a unique experience and reflect the personality and desires of the couple. Arrangements are made with the highest quality professionals from the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex for extravagant catering, décor, lighting and sound, entertainment, photography, videography and, of course, a lavish wedding cake fit for royalty. On-site hairdressers and makeup artists provide their services as couples ready themselves to exchange vows. Shiny black, purebred Fresian horses provide carriage rides that capture the romance of a different period and, to complete the storybook wedding, fabulous Tudor-style gowns and Elizabethan-style gowns are also available.
Wedding Packages and Custom Plans
Pricing options include the Simply Elegant Package, the Knight's Package, the Queen's Package, and the King's Package. No matter the package chosen, as couples make wedding plans, details are attended to with the greatest care, from the candlelight atmosphere to the custom wedding cake, ensuring a meaningful and memorable event.
A dramatic wedding venue, Castle Douglas provides couples in love with the magical atmosphere for a ceremony right out of a dream.
As John Dumford says proudly, "If you can dream it, there's a chance it will happen."
