Fake Moon Landings, September 11 Conspiracy Theories and Other Myths of Today
5 of the Most Ridiculous
In "5 of the Greatest TV Shows with Meaning," I listed some outstanding shows of the past. We'll explore at this time, however, 5 of the most common myths of today, in Part 1 of this series:
Myth Number 1: Astrology, Horoscopes and Other Dark Arts are "Valid"
I was attending a training session at work a while back, and there were several people in attendance, all adults. During a break, the people remained sitting at their desks, but the conversation turned to horoscopes and signs of the "zodiac." I couldn't believe this nonsensical discussion, as though it were a room full of children talking about a fairy tale.
I was one of the few people remaining silent, and then someone asked me when I was born (pertaining to a horoscope matter). Of course, I told the person I totally didn't believe in that stuff and it didn't matter. I wasn't rude, but I feel it's important not to go along with this sort of baloney. In doing so, you stand as a correction to people, and some day they might get a clue.
Tarot cards, palm reading and other such practices are also very bad, quite obviously. These deceptions should not need elaboration, but if any individual feels drawn toward this sort of fixation, he or she would be best advised to not be swayed. I hate to say it, but even Chinese fortune cookies can be a not-so-good sort of a thing, if hope or faith is placed in them. Bear in mind that bad messages or predictions of bad luck are not going to be placed in the cookies.
Myth Number 2: Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny are "Real"
While most adults don't actually believe in these entities, they believe they're positive for children and a normal part of childhood. I respectfully disagree and I maintain that deceiving children is not conducive to good development. Many children are actually scared by Santa Claus at first, and they should understand that good things come from honesty and hard work - not from tooth fairies or phonies in a red suit.
Myth Number 3: The Moon Landings were "Fake"
There are also grown adults who actually believe the original and subsequent moon landings were not real and fabricated. This is a rejection of historically accurate events. Not only does it represent dysfunctional thinking, but it sets the stage for believing in bigger lies such as 9/11 conspiracy theories and holocaust denial, which we'll take a look at below.
Myth Number 4: September 11 was an "Inside Job"
There is a tendency to become fascinated with wild conspiracy theories, on the level of believing in ghosts and other fascinations. However, believing that September 11 was some sort of "inside job," that "the government did it" and so on represents the height of madness. It is frightening how many people buy into such lies, and while doing so, they deny it is the real, actual enemy of America that committed the act. In my opinion, fabricating, speaking or promoting such lies is on the borderline of sedition or being traitorous.
Myth Number 5: The Holocaust "Didn't Happen"
This is another absurdity and a rejection of reality in the face of the actual proof of World War Two footage. Of course, it is mostly exhibited by haters of the Jewish people and others. When people have trouble dealing with facts, their minds often enter into a state of denial, and they also believe they can use the falsehoods and lies they've accepted as tools for their cause.
While all of these issues may seem ludicrous to most people, there are others whose belief systems have become altered. In subsequent articles in this series, I'll reveal some more myths that involve social issues, medical matters and others.
