This one hour series revolves around the life of Sam. His parents have let Sam pretty much get away with anything and everything which includes school, work and even sports. The parents drove their other son Kyle on the other hand to excel in whatever he comes into contact with. Something is definitely amiss here. The parents are harboring a deep and dark secret that they have not told their sons.
When Sam finally turns the age of 21 (by now he has passed over college which left him working at a less than stellar job), the secret is finally revealed as to why his life was came so easy to him. His parents made a pact with the Devil himself. They promised their son's soul to him. Sam isn't exactly thrilled with this idea, he would much rather prefer sitting around and wasting his life away. Satan tells him he has no other choice and there are serious penalties for not going through with what was promised to him.
Okay so if he does not violate this contract, what could the Devil possibly want from him? The Devil tells him he has the difficult task of capturing all the fugitive souls who have escaped from Hell and return them to where they rightfully belong. Satan will give him containers to capture the souls with and you won't believe the first one he has to use. Yes folks, it is a Dirt Devil. How will Sam deal with his newfound career so to speak? You will have to tune in to find out and oh yeah, he'll get help from a few of his friend. He will also attempt to find love with the beautiful Andi.
"Reaper" stars Andrew Airlie ("Saved"), Bret Harrison, Missy Peregrym ("Heroes"), Ray Wise("24"), Rick Gonzalez, Tyler Labine ("Boston Legal") and Valerie Rae Miller ("Dark Angel"). "Reaper" is executive produced by Deborah Spera ("Criminal Minds"), Tom Spezialy ("Dead Like Me" and "Desperate Housewives") and Mark Gordon ("Grey's Anatomy").
Will this show find a fan base? I really don't know. It does follow "Beauty and the Geek" so maybe people will tune in. It is going up against though "Dancing with the Stars" and "House". "Reaper" is an hour long which I'm not sure if that's a good idea. I think a half hour series would have been better here. An hour is a long time to keep people invested and not want to turn the channel. I don't have high expectations for the show but who knows maybe they're onto something. Hopefully they can find the right blend of comedy and drama. By the way, Kevin Smith directed the pilot so he must have seen something in it. "Reaper" will premiere on Tuesday, September 25th at 9/8c.
