Fall 2007 Make Up Trends

Make the Runway Look Your Every Day Look!

You can wear the latest make up trends this season with no worry. These bold, memorable faces can be adapted to fit your tastes and style without looking too extreme. Anyone of any age can easily wear them whether they 're cat's eyes, dark brows or crimson lips. These versatile looks can complement a no nonsense men's wear suit or a glam evening outfit . What's best is, that unlike other trends from season's past, they're extremely fun to create.

The biggest trend this year is the cat's eye line of black on lids. Everyone thinks this takes an experienced hand but it doesn't. Thanks to almost Sharpie like liners anyone can easily have the glam runway look, Just extend your liner out about one quarter to half an inch out past your eyelids.(it helps to have Revlon's Make Up Eraser pen nearby in case mistakes occur). The best liners to use are Cover Girl's, Max Factors' and L'Oreal's felt tipped ones. These tend to be smaller in size and sometimes hard to hold such as the case as Cover's Girl's. It's perfect , however, for slipping into an evening clutch for a big night . You can use regular sized pencil liners if you're more comfortable drawing with them. Ulta has an excellent line of water and tear proof liners that come in plastic casings. You can buy their traditional black but also deep brown and indigo. For a more unusual line ,experiment their Sea foam, a greenish blue or Shy a pale blue What color eye shadow works best with the cat's eye? There is a retro look featuring peacock blue or Pepto Bismo pink, reminiscent of Liz Taylor in Cleopatra. This can work if you're at a party or just want to stand out at a club. Yet it may give you raised eyebrows at the office or family gathering. At this point don't think ancient Egyptian temptress, think Miss Golightly peering into Tiffany's windows. Go for an understated shade such as a shimmery nude or matte taupe. Again Ulta comes to the rescue here because they have the best matte and shimmer earth tones out of any make up line. Brush the color onto lids and brow bone before applying your liner. To make eyes really pop dust a pale line of pearly white powder directly under the lower lash lines. You can splurge and get Laura Geller's Wonder Wand Eye brightener for $18. or scrimp and get Prestige's pale Glisten shade for $4. Also try Ulta's Pearl or Iceland shades, good buys at $6.50., Finish with two coats of your favorite mascara. Remember that your eyes are the focal point of this look so keep lips and cheeks subdued. Try natural pink blushes such as Benefit's Dandelion or L'Oreal's Blush Delice in Strawberry Tart. Use a big fluffy blush brush to sweep all over the face. Finish with a pale pink gloss like elf's Pink Kiss or Ulta's Baby. This is the perfect look that's acceptable at work and at drinks afterwards.

Not to be left out brows are coming into their own this fall 2007 season. They've also become the focus but be careful when attempting this look. Make them the sole focal point otherwise you'll look like you're channeling Joan Crawford. Keep brows well groomed and plucked (this may hurt but it's worth it). You can keep unruly ones in line with clear brow gels such as elf's or Ulta's. Redheads and blondes may need a boost with the look so try Max Factors' Eyebrow/Eyeliner in Muted Auburn to give much needed oomph. Darker brows can also benefit from pencils. Try Rimmel's London Professional Eyebrow Pencil in Brunette. There are also a number of brow maintenance kits from Hard Candy, Sephora and Styla. What other makeup should go with dramatic look? Nada. Think Ali MacGraw in Love Story or Brooke Shields during her Calvin days. Opt for a very natural face. Again just use an all over swipe of Benefit's Dandelion or Cover Girl's Natural Glow blush. Lips should have a just bitten flush to them. Try a colored balm such as ones from Burt's Bee's Kiehl's or Laura Mercier's. If you want to put on a coat of mascara just apply one and that's all.

A minor trend (or trendlet) is lining eyes with peach liner. This look was first seen in the September issue of Lucky and makes eyes look wider and clearer. You'll have to use a pale peach lip pencil to achieve this since most companies don't produce this color eye liner. (the exceptions are Styla, Tarte, GloMinerals and Paula Dorf) Actually one eye pencil that does eliminate the red and gives eyes this bright look is Jane's Mercury Rising. It's a bronzy taupe guaranteed to eliminate that red, tired look from eye whites. This pencil works best when you're wearing neutral or natural colored shadows..

Another big trend is the red mouth. This is a holdover from last fall and it's come back with a vengeance. It adds sophisticated glamour to this season's black and gray men's wear styles, balancing out wide pants and short jackets by giving attention to the face. Be careful. This is not a look for the fainthearted. If you feel uncomfortable wearing a matte red lipstick then opt for coloring friendly gloss. Try Wet N Wild's 577A Red Sensation. This is a red gloss flecked with gold shimmers. (plus it has a yummy cherry taste). It gives you the look without all the drama. Another red toned gloss is elf's vanilla flavored Mauve Luxe (don't be fooled by the name).it gives lips a lightly sheeny cherry stain Sephora had clear red glosses that give you bold lips without the kabuki vibe. If you are going the lipstick route then look for reds that compliment your teeth. This sounds strange but it's true. Certain reds will emphasize yellow or stained teeth. To de-emphasize this, look at your skin tone. If you have pink undertones then go for a red that has orange in it. If you have yellow undertones then go for ones with blue in them. If you're still clueless, then march yourself to your nearest cosmetics counter and ask for help. Remember that your lips are the focal point no matter what red you ultimately choose. Keep eyes and cheeks low key here. Wear a light brown shadow like Revlon's Twelve Hour Eye Shadow in Hazelnut or Ulta's Cocoa and just a simple coat of mascara. An all over swipe of a pale blush like Ulta's Coy or Clinique's Blushing Blush in Cupid or Iced Lotus is all you need for final polish. Remember to keep lips bright at all times with a neutral face. You'll look washed out otherwise (if that's the case then invest in an all day lipwear such as what Cover Girl and Maybelline feature).

What finishes off these bold faces? Bolder nails. The latest trend is dark nail polish for both fingers and toes. Gone are the juicy brights and shimmery pales of Summer 2007. A more sophisticated look is going on in salons across the world. Colors are leaning toward Goth darks such as inky navies like OPI's Russian Navy and Light My Sapphire. For real impact try the sparkly black Hyde In The Dark by Creative. Nail Polish. Most women stick with deep burgundies, crimsons , raisins and plums. OPI and Revlon are known for their deep , almost merlot shades. Use these to complement the falls' checks and houndstooth patterns. If these are too intense, then just go with a dark toe color. Lacquer fingernails in icy white or silver to balance out the other's intensity.

Anyone can wear this fall's latest make up trends. You can emphasize your lips for day and then your eyes for evening. Or just go with heavy brows and an all natural look if you want. These are fun looks so play with them and make them your own!

  • Extend your eyeliner about one quarter of an inch to create the cat's eye look
  • Keep your face natural looking if you're emphasizing your eyebrows
  • Use red gloss instead if red lipstick is too intense
