Fall 2007's Classic Fashion Trend: Check Your Closet Before You Shop

Nanette Haz
Do you have a closet full of clothes, but nothing to wear? This season's look is classic and glamorous: Great jewel tone colors and new neutral tones. You could easily update a few pieces and be picture-perfect this fall. Before you go shopping this season, take inventory on what classic pieces you already own.

Blouses

This season romantic glamour is in. Silk or satin tie front blouses, are perfect with high waisted trousers and sexy pencil skirts. Tunics in prints or solid tones are great for the office, dressed up with a wide belt. Classic crisp white blouses are always in style.

Skirts

Try on several styles to figure out which style best suites your body type. A below the knee style in a-line, or pencil style in a solid brown, grey, wool, or tweed, would be perfect. Look for a flowered or a print style longer flowing skirt, this look is great over a belted sweater.

Pants

The high waisted pant with wide leg is in and can be worn in a great tweed, light pattern, or blue jean for casual Fridays. Pairing these pants up with a romantic tie front blouse, or a crisp white shirt and menswear inspired vest would be great for the office. While wearing a high waist pant be sure to have on equally sexy pumps, the pants are cut a few inches longer than regular slacks.

Outerwear

When shopping for your outerwear, always be thinking ahead. Look for a classic fitted sty le that can take you from the office to a nice evening out. For example a trench coat with a removable liner for warmer climates. A heavy wool trench coat would be a great investment. Look for a classic color, or light print, avoid bright bold prints and questionable colors, as to not appear dated next season.

Dresses

A solid color dress in a classic shade of the season will be an asset to your wardrobe. Look for hemlines at or right below the knee. Try on several dresses to find a shape that works with your body type. A solid purple dress with a conservative hemline can easily be updated with next season's belt, handbag, and shoes.

Shoes

Think comfortable, and not too sexy. This season the sling back style pump with peep toe, mid heeled knee boots, ballet, and pointed toe flats will all work for the office. Look for heels that are not stiletto thin, a thicker heel, will give you more support, and can take more wear.

While shopping this season, splurge on trendy accessories. Get that animal print purse, sexy suede purple belt, or must have earrings of the moment. Pick up great colors of the seasons, in styles and tones that are not so trendy. Always be on the lookout for clearance prices on classic pieces of clothing.
