Fall 2009 TV Shows that Bit the Dust

Has that favorite TV show been canceled? Avoid searching the TV channels in vain for favorite shows that may have already been canceled. Read on to find out which TV shows have already bitten the dust. Some of the TV shows canceled may be a surprise.

Beautiful Life. On September 29, 2009, after only two episodes, CW announced it was canceling this TV show, making it the first cancellation of a new series. Produced by Ashton Kutcher, the story line involved teenage models. Low ratings were the reason for cancelling this show (the premiere episode placed last in the ratings for the hour). For now, it will be replaced with Melrose Place.

Ruby and the Rockits. ABC has canceled this TV show, which began its series on July 22. After only ten episodes, with ratings falling, the last show viewed on September 22. A different story line, with an ex-teen idol's family taking in Ruby, a teenage aspiring rock star. Maybe it would have survived the axe had it not been premiered during the summertime.

The Bill Engvall Show. This TV show was canceled by TBS after three seasons. This series, about a family counselor and his own family life, also suffered from decreasing ratings. The last show of Season 3 for this cancelled TV show, was on September 03.

Worst Week. Nothing could ever go right for Sam Briggs in this comedy. Looks like bad luck has hit again in real life, as CBC canceled this hilarious TV show. I was surprised this lighthearted comedy was canceled. Probably not helping its ratings was the fact that Worst Week was in the same time slot as the most popular comedy sitcom, 2 ½ Men. Even a later switch to Saturdays did not keep Worst Week off the list of canceled TV shows.

The Cleaner. Recovering drug addicts band together in this series to help others beat their addictions. The show had excellent ratings the first season, but ratings fell during the second season and A&E canceled this TV drama and decided against a third season. The last episode aired on September 15.

Secret Millionaire. After only six episodes, FOX canceled this TV reality show due to low ratings. The show has been popular in the UK, but ratings were not good in the United States. A rare twist of fate has given Secret Millionaire a second chance. ABC has decided to air the show for 6 episodes and see how it rates. This reality show features millionaires searching for people they feel deserve their gift of cash.

Swingtown. CBS canceled this TV show after only 13 episodes. Set in the 1970's, this show was aimed at adult audiences, with controversial themes of swinging lifestyles and changing morals. The ratings were low from the very start, and doomed Swingtown to the list of canceled TV shows.

The Unit. After four seasons CBC added this unique military drama to their list of canceled TV shows. Canceled due to budget cuts and declining ratings, the average age of the viewer was 55. The good news for The Unit fans is that the series has already been sold into syndication and reruns will begin in the fall of 2010.

You can add ABC's Eastwick and NBC's Southland (perhaps moving to TNT) to that list. Sad on Southland and more of a guilty attachment sadness on Eastwick's end. Bigger story why in the dickens would ABC cancel Eastwick but KEEP The Forgotten?

Every one of these programs deserved to be canceled. I am hopeful that their demise will make way for decent material.
