Fall 2010 Fashion Color Trends

Jillian McCoy
Every season has its hot colors. They're first imagined on runways and in magazine spreads, eventually trickling down to fashion-forward discount shops like H&M, Target and Forever 21. Fall 2010's fashion color trends are mostly neutrals, designed to last and last. This is truly a season for wardrobe investments, in classic pieces that will be wearable for years to come. Here's a look at the season's color trends, to help you put your most fashionable foot forward.

Fall 2010 Fashion Color Trends - Greige

One word on everyone's lips this fall is greige, an unexpected neutral in a unique hue. Greige combines brown with light gray, and is also often tinged with a faint whisper of purple. The result is an elegant tone of brownish dove gray, beautifully wearable with most colors. Greige pairs well with the colors it combines, lightening up beside deep browns or gunmetal gray and vanishing to a basic light gray next to purple or red tones. Greige looks gorgeous next to white and cream tones, making it an ideal choice for fashion-conscious fall brides.

Fall 2010 Fashion Color Trends - Rich Browns

Fall always features beautiful brown shades, taking its cues from the scenic elements of the season. This fall is no exception, with gorgeous chestnut and chocolate shades appearing everywhere. Boots and structured handbags are also in fashion this season, featured in brown glossy leather or soft suede. The brown shades in style this fall match well with the other neutrals that are hot right now, including greige and khaki green. Brown and gray are currently being paired, as a softer, earthier twist on basic black and white.

Fall 2010 Fashion Color Trends - Gold

Fall signifies a return to ladylike shapes and feminine details. Gold jewelry and accessories provide a finishing touch, adding a little bling to all those neutrals. The range of gold jewelry in fashion runs the gamut from delicate filigrees to heavy-looking architectural designs. Gold fasteners finish off much of the season's clothing and bags, including zippers, toggles and snaps. Gold's also being worn as a popular makeup shade this season. OPI nail polish in Glitzerland is an awesome way to wear gold nails, and golden eyeshadow shades are universally flattering.

Fall 2010 Fashion Color Trends - Brilliant Colors

A striking contrast to the season's neutrals, gorgeous bright and jewel tones also abound this fall. Bright, blue-based purple is a stylish choice, as is ruby red. Vibrant orange makes a not-so-surprising appearance this season, but probably shouldn't be paired with black after Halloween. A range of blue colors are also in fashion this fall, including cobalt, peacock and varying shades of navy. These can all be dressed up with the sparkling gold jewelry and accessories making the rounds this season, easily transitioning fall fashion choices into elegant holiday looks.

Nothing like using new accessories to update seasonal wardrobe changes, especially during these topsy turvy economic times.
