Fall 2010 Footwear

Ballet flats are out and platform pumps are in for the fall 2010 catwalk footwear. Fall 2010 brings sleeker, more sophisticated versions of the Spring 2010 styles, emphasizing solid blacks and chromes, as well as uniform snakeskin coverage from top to sole.

The boots. This autumn brings zippered thigh-high boots worn all zipped up or with the zipper pulled down six to eight inches as a "sexy casual" look. This falls boots are high heeled with tapering platform soles, and in the case of Louis Vuitton, the heels taper mid-way up and are accessorized with a tiny bow, as if the bow just cinched the heel of the shoe. Variations on this year's look are the stocky platform high heeled boots with buckles up the front.

In the case of booties, ankle-high boots are worn with tapered platform soles, spike heels and a rather bondage theme. They are built stocky and have an Oxford appeal across the foot.

The shoes. Great creativity is being spent on this fall's high heel shoe collection, involving a sculpted theme forming the heel and the sole of the shoe. The soles appear carved from wood or metal with a spring theme, such as feathers, wings, flowers and water. Most of this fall's shoe line includes spiked heels and a heavy construction around the feet, usually with sneaker, buckle or layered leather detail. Balenciaga is bringing back "Cosmonauts and seventies Formica" and rigidity in their shoe line, pairing high heeled Oxfords and sneakers with kitchen-tile-like square heels.

The heels. This year's heels, both spring and fall, have been extremely high. The ballet flat has moved on to sexier, higher platform pumps, spiked thigh high boots and platform booties. In fact, anything less than 3 inch is now considered out of fashion and last year.

What will they match? Pair your new footwear with shorter, fifties-style looks. This fall's bondage thigh high look goes well with soft chiffon and sheer materials, such as a short, vintage baby-doll dress. Pair this year's platform pumps with sleek navy office wear or with fitted, tapered jeans and a feminine peasant blouse. Bright colored accessories match this fall's pump line, such as a bright yellow bangle paired with vivid turquoise platform Mary-Janes.
