Fall 2010 Trend: Geek Chic

I get issues of Teen Vogue sent to me every month. I'm obviously not a teenager and there's not a teen in the household, and no, I didn't subscribe to the magazine. Since I get them anyway I always flip through just to see what the kids are in to these days. In the September 2010 issue there was a list of fall fashion trends, one of which was dubbed "Geek Chic" glasses. I personally adore this trend and the glasses because I actually have a pair that are very "geek chic." I wear contacts most of the time but every now and then I'll opt for my glasses instead. Wearing glasses and eye makeup can be tricky. Don't wear enough and it won't show pass the glasses. Wear too much and you'll look like a clown. The key here is to focus on the eyes because your glasses will no doubt bring attention to your eyes anyway.

When doing your makeup for glasses you want to focus mainly on the eyes, focus on making them pop. Too much all over combined with your glasses will make your face look too busy. We don't want that.

Any makeup look can be pulled off with glasses as long as you know how intense you should go. As I mentioned earlier, going too natural more than likely won't even be noticed, so really, what's the point of even wearing eye makeup?

I would recommend going for colors that compliment your eye color, for example purple is a great color for those with brown eyes and brown for blue eyes. Of course you can always wear any color you're in the mood for just make sure to concentrate the colors along the center of the lids. The way I apply eye makeup for glasses is to do my eyes the way I normally would then put on my glasses. If my eyes aren't popping then I add a little more and then try again with my glasses. I do this until I feel it's right.

Another way to make your eyes pop is to define your eyebrows. The eyebrows pull the overall look together. Of course, don't forget your lashes. Dramatic lashes really stand out with glasses, but if your glasses lie too close to your face for false lashes try a thickening and lengthening mascara in black instead.

Whether you have to wear glasses or choose to wear them, you can no doubt have just as much fun with makeup as anyone else.
