This season is nothing short of eclectic, we're seeing a little bit of all of the trends that have surfaced over the last five years or so: metallics, fur, animal prints, retro styles, etc. But the biggest trend of all for fall 2010 is leather, so if you pride yourself on being trendy, either pull out the old leather jacket or pants you've had stowed away in the back of the closet or get yourself a new bomber for this fall.
Leather
Jackets, leggings, bustiers, corsets, dresses - it's all available in leather for fall 2010. Leather is a fabric that is so naturally casual that it's perfect for every day wear, but if paired thoughtfully with other separates, leather can also work for semi-formal occasions such as a date or a day at the office.
Retro
The 50's, 60's, and 70's are still in style. We've seen these looks over the last few years and they are not making a departure this season. Be ready for 50's feminine sweaters and circle skirts, 60's mod dresses, and 70's style pant suits.
Lingerie
Lingerie is not just to be worn underneath the clothes this season; it is to be shown off as part of the outfit. If you need inspiration for this look just think Madonna ala Desperately Seeking Susan and then class it up a notch or two.
Helpful Tips: You can't go wrong this season with lace or leather, and exposed bras are not considered taboo this season.
Black and Neutrals
Black is always in style but it is a focal point of the fall 2010 fashion looks. You can have fun this season pairing black pieces with neutrals and metallics.
Everyone has their own opinion on neutrals, women with pale complexions tend to prefer more vibrant shades, but nonetheless, neutrals are essential to a well-rounded and functional wardrobe. This season offers camel, beige, taupe, gray, and other neutral shades of the like. Even if you're not a huge fan of neutrals, I suggest stocking up on a couple separates that can be paired with other more colorful items (remember to pick a neutral that suits your skin tone).
Other Trends of Note
Many trends have lasted throughout the last five years or so, here are a few that you can still count on:
Leopard Prints
Military Styles
Sheer Clothing
Fur
Thigh High Boots
