Fall 2011 TV's Most Promising Shows

Stephanie Armstrong
It may be early in the game to predict which fall 2011 TV shows will be hits, but it is always fun to highlight the shows that look the most promising. Mark your calendars and get your DVR fired up for these promising network offerings.

New Girl

Zooey Deschanel fans will surely enjoy this series about an eccentric girl who moves in with three guys after breaking up with her boyfriend. The series will looks hilarious and may be another hit for FOX this fall. You can catch "New Girl" on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. after "Glee."

Terra Nova

Another promising TV show for fall 2011 is a fantasy series about people from the future who travel through time to save the world. According to FOX, "Terra Nova" comes from executive producers Steven Spielberg, Rene Echevarria, Peter Chernin and Brannon Braga. Watch "Terra Nova" on Mondays at 8 p.m. on FOX.

Pan Am

ABC is definitely catering to viewers who love watching period shows like "Mad Men" with this drama set in the 1960s about stewardesses and pilots. Christina Ricci stars in this new fall show set to follow "Desperate Housewives" at 10 p.m. on Sundays.

A Gifted Man

The concept of CBS' "A Gifted Man" is about a doctor, played by Patrick Wilson, who sees his dead ex-wife. The show sounds like another CBS ghost series, but I'm really excited that Patrick Wilson will be on TV every week. The pilot will is also directed by Jonathan Demme ("Silence of the Lambs"). "A Gifted Man" airs on Fridays at 8 p.m. this fall.

2 Broke Girls

This new CBS comedy is about a two broke girls who are slaving away as waitresses in order to raise enough money to open up their own cupcake shop. The pilot was co-written by Michael Patrick King ("Sex and the City") and stars Kat Dennings from "Nick and Nora's Infinite Playlist." The series will air Mondays at 8:30 p.m.

Up All Night

Will Arnett may not have had much success in FOX's "Running Wilde," but this new comedy, co-starring Christina Applegate and Maya Rudolph, looks hilarious. Arnett and Applegate portray a couple that is adjusting to parenthood. Catch "Up All Night" on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. on NBC.

Ringer

Sarah Michelle Gellar returns to TV in this fall and she plays twins on the series. "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" fans have been eagerly awaiting Gellar's return to TV and the wait is almost over. Gellar stars in a new drama written by the writers and producers of "Supernatural." "Ringer" will air on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. on the CW.
