Spend time outdoors enjoying the weather and the signs of autumn. Take a nature walk and gather acorns and colored leaves for fall craft projects. Use leaves to make leaf rubbings by placing leaves under paper and rubbing a crayon lightly over them. Talk about the different shapes of the leaves and which tress that the leaves came came from. Take pretty leaves and iron between two sheets of wax paper. These can be uses to decorate your windows or fridge. Parents can make holes in acorns for children to thread together. These make cute necklaces or bracelets. Indian corn would make a good addition to the acorns. Your gathered treasures from nature can be put into a special, nature box for your children to explore. Get a child sized rake and let your child to rake leaves in to piles. Make the leaf piles big, and jump in together.
Take a trip with your children to a local pumpkin patch or orchard. Many of these places offer hay rides or tractor rides as part of the experience. Help your child pick the perfect pumpkin. Give them time, and do not rush. Enjoy the time together. The right pumpkin is a big decision for little ones. Carving your pumpkin is not your only option for decorating it. Try using paint, markers, and crayons on your pumpkin. Using these alternatives to carving allow a child to personalize their pumpkin without as much help from mom or dad. After emptying out the pumpkin's guts, salt and bake the seeds for a yummy snack to share with your children. Pick in season fruit such as apples from an orchard. Then spend time together cooking. You can make apple pies or applesauce together. Children will love the experience of picking and cooking their own food to eat.
Spending time with your children enjoying Fall is a great way to spend quality time together. It will be a learning experience for your children, and they will build a closer relationship with you. Enjoy these Fall activities together and come up with some of your own. Maybe you will even start some new traditions together.
