Fall or Autumn Weekend Excursions in the Northeast

Since there is so much history in the northeast, there is no shortage of incredible experiences that await. Eight of the original 13 colonies are in the northeast. The Declaration of Independence, The Articles of Confederation, and the Constitution were all written in the northeast. Plymouth Plantation, where we get the Thanksgiving story between the Pilgrims and the Indians, took place in the northeast. The first shot of the War for Independence was fired in the northeast.

Besides that, fall in the northeast is a visionary delight. There are hills filled with yellow and orange. There are waterfalls in abundance. There are so many things to see and do in the northeast in the fall. If I were to pick three spots to visit in the northeast, they would be Philadelphia in Pennsylvania, Gettysburg in Pennsylvania, and Concord, Massachusetts.

Gettysburg, Pennsylvania is known for the Civil War battle that took place there, and the battlefield is definitely a place to visit and remember the sacrifices that were made there so long ago. There are many other places of historical significance in Gettysburg, also. The Eisenhower Historical Site and the Gettysburg National Cemetery are just two of them. I would stay at the Best Western Gettysburg Hotel. Accommodations come with many amenities, including high-speed internet, cable, a fitness center, an iron, hair dryers, and many have jacuzzi and fireplaces. The hotel also has an award winning lounge right in the hotel for informal fine dining. Many of Gettysburg attractions are within walking distance of the hotel, so it is not only very comfortable, it is very convenient. If you wish to go out to eat, Dunlaps Restaurant and Bakery is an excellent choice. This family owned and operated restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner at very reasonable prices. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is home of Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell. The decisions that were made here formed a nation that has stood against whatever forces, from within or without, that would make the nation bend. Philadelphia was the first capital of the United States. Library Hall was also the first library in the United States that was open to the public. It was a predecessor to the Library of Congress. Not only does Philadelphia offer history, it offers a wide variety of entertainment. I would stay at the Holiday Inn, which is located right in the historical district.

Concord, Massachusetts has a history that goes all the way back beyond the beginning of the War for Independence. There are reenactments, Museums, and the Minute Man National Historic Park. Henry David Thoreau's cabin is here. Ralph Waldo Emerson and Hawthorne wrote here. It is a monumental historical place to visit. I would definitely stay at the Hawthorne Inn Bed and Breakfast. Amenities include wireless internet, DVD and CD player, iron, hair dryer, bottled water, snacks, bath robes, and a complementary breakfast. Helen's Restaurant is my dining choice. The food is excellent, and they have a variety of desserts. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
