The good thing about traveling while you're in college is that you can visit friends in other cities or states who have breaks at different times from you. This way, you save on housing and you have tour guides to places you're not familiar with. It's a good way to enjoy the best foods and attractions with the help of people who live there.
A good travel tip is to try to find travel destinations that are driving distance. That way, a whole group can go and split the cost of gas, as opposed to flying and everyone spending more money for individual travel expenses.
Another good thing about road trips is that you can stop at random bars and dives along the way and enjoy all the good food the country has to offer. Another option to maximize the places you get to see, is to rent a car and drive it one way, and then fly back home. That way you can go farther and you don't have to double back and pass the same locations twice.
If you do want to fly, the best way to spend less is to be flexible on your dates and airports. You can also get good rates if you settle for flights that have one or more stops. It's important to note that flights are more expensive during the holidays because a lot of people are traveling. If you book early, you can save a lot.
If you live up north, you'll probably want to escape the cold during the fall break. In order to save money, rent in smaller beach cities. For example, Miami is a good fall break destination; it's often warm enough for a refreshing swim. However, staying in Miami is a lot more expensive, than say, Fort Lauderdale, which is nearby, cheaper and the beach is just as good.
Another good vacation is a cruise. The fall is a good time to book because more people travel in the spring. Rates will be lower and you can take a short 3 day cruise or a full week. You can even get discounts if you book in large groups and fill up a cabin. Cruises a great way to unwind. You don't have to worry about food or transportation and you get to enjoy some of the world's best beaches.
No matter your destination, fall break is a great time to get away and relax with good friends. Safe travels!
