Fall Day Trips North Eastern Areas

Fall is a great time to visit the great outdoors in the northern part of the United States. As the trees slide into the next stage of dormancy some of them have leaves which change colors. Red, yellows and every hue in between can be seen on the highways and byways, which dot the eastern states.

Many cities have celebrations to herald in the season, in what is known as "fall foliage celebrations". In these celebrations, not only can a visitor learn about the trees, sample apples, nuts and other food items from the fall harvest season, they can learn about the seasons of life.

In the Finger Lakes region, wineries dot the landscape, and fall is the perfect time to go on some tours. As you drive from winery to winery look at the leaves, and enjoy their colorful display. Of course, one should always make sure to have a designated driver whenever they consume wine or any other alcoholic beverages. The drink age in every northern state is 21, so please keep that in mind as you plan your trip.

Many towns also include celebrations of the harvest, such as cheese and wine and apple festivals. At the apple festivals visitors can enjoy all types of apples, candied, caramelized, bakes, fried pies, and many more products made with apples. These types of festivals are great for families with young children. Do not be surprised if a vendor offers you a slice of cheddar cheese with your apple pie that is the preferred way to eat it in many areas in the North Eastern part of the United States.

Even if you cannot afford one of the celebrations or festivals, driving on any country roads will allow you to see the wonderful fall foliage. Just roll down the windows, turn on the music, and enjoy the scenery and your family.

If you are heading out for a day trip in your local area be sure to fill the crock-pot before you leave with some macaroni and cheese so that it is complete when you return. Nothing beats a hot crock-pot of comfort food after a wonderful day trip to enjoy the fall foliage.
