When you think of the season, it also brings about the delicious recollection of holiday food being prepared in the kitchen and long-standing family traditions. To complete your kitchen and get it ready for the experience of the Fall season, think about changing the décor to reflect the mood of that time of year.
Think the word "Kitchen". Now what's the first thing that came to mind? For everyone there will be a different answer. We each have a certain way that we view our kitchens.
The first thing you think of will be used as a starting point in your redecorating because it's what is most important to you. Whatever you start with, remember to stay with coordinating colors and designs.
Here are some tips to keep in mind before you begin:
TIP #1: Change Your Kitchen to Fall
Plates, glasses, and table settings; all of it can be changed, or just one of them. You can find so many different patterns and colors that you won't have any trouble finding the one to suit you. If you don't want to go the usual route and buy a new set, you can spend some time at Flea Markets and such picking up pieces of coordinating styles for more of an eclectic look.
When or if you choose to change your dishes, don't forget about the silverware. You can find sets to match whatever you need.
TIP #2: Change Your Kitchen to Fall
Look around at your countertops. If you want to add a bit of Fall in that area, you can consider purchasing a seasonal-inspired cookie jar; again be sure to check out Flea Markets or Yard Sales for inexpensive ones to suit your decorating.
You can also find or make your own small Fall centerpiece for the countertop. Take a pretty bowl and place some Fall-colored, glittery faux fruit; some pillar candles; and sprigs of small filler such as ivy, or Fall leaves, in it for a beautiful centerpiece.
TIP #3: Change Your Kitchen to Fall
You should also think about changing out your kitchen towels, hot pads, oven mitts, and dishcloths to suit the color scheme. You can find sets in many different colors and designs that it can be a daunting task to find the right ones. If you are on a budget, make sure you stick to it buy purchasing sets such as five each of hand towels, dishcloths, with two oven mitts and two hot pads.
You'll only use them through the Fall and you can always purchase some more at a later date to add to your collection. If you want a more showy display, and can afford to spend a bit more money, you can purchase them in complementing styles, colors, and patterns for a complete ensemble.
TIP #4: Change Your Kitchen to Fall
If you are fortunate enough to have a window in your kitchen, consider changing the curtains as well. Once more look for Fall-inspired patterns to suit your color scheme. Be sure to measure your window so that you will know what size you will need to buy or make. If you do a little bit of sewing, do think about making your own curtains. It is not hard to do and doesn't require a lot of money.
The next time you are in your local discount store and they have a craft department, go have a look through some of the pattern books at the different styles of curtains you can make. You can create simple, inexpensive curtains, or spend a bit more and make a truly stunning pair of curtains.
No matter if you choose to go all out and completely redo your kitchen for Fall, or just change a few things here and there, you can really make a difference in the feeling that it will give you, your family, and guests. As long as the colors and patterns reflect your personal design, your perception of what Fall is, then it will show in your decorating.
