Fall Decorating Ideas for Your Bedroom: Crafty Ideas Anyone Can Do!

Decorating your bedroom for fall may be as semi-permanent as painting or wall papering the walls over, along with re-carpeting. Or you may make transformations that can be changed again for other seasons. Make semi-permanent changes if you are such a lover of autumn that you would like to live with its colorful motifs year-round. Stick with more readily changed ideas if you are only decorating for this season. If you are changing the walls and or carpets, choose amongst the fall palette or colors, using autumnal colors with pictures or other accents. Always choose good quality paint: I prefer Benjamin Moore or Ralph Lauren - which comes in textures as well as in many wonderful colors. Choose the sheen according to how soft or bright you want the room to feel. Some color possibilities would be ivory colored wainscoting with a deep red, yellow or pumpkin orange for the walls; sage green walls with a deep, burnt orange carpet; or three walls in a soft yellow with one in a deeper harvest gold or medium orange.

Whether or not you are choosing to paint or wall paper, the bed is the centerpiece of every bedroom, and if it is a queen or larger, it is absolutely the key to decorating. Choose bedding in fall colors or even with an autumnal print. Matching or complimentary window treatments draw the fall color themes together. Many rustic choices that include wildlife or lodge themes add to a sense of autumn hominess. Some of the many places to look for comfortable, quality bedding include orvis.com, sundance.com, thecompanystore.com and garnethill.com. If you can afford to invest in an heirloom, you might choose a Pendleton blanket, or consider an authentic Amish quilt - you can locate crafters through this web site: http://www.800padutch.com/quilts.shtml.

Room accents add to this warm, cozy fall decorating. Framed pictures of changing leaves; harvest, Thanksgiving or Halloween themes; back-to-school or fall sports subjects can all enhance the autumnal sense of the room. Other woodsy or fall colored items, such as candles, bureau scarves, lamp shades, or 3-dimensional wall décor may also go well with fall decorating. Finally, if there are other linens in the room, such as towels or a quilt on racks, change them to go with the color themes of fall.

If you are good at do-it-yourself projects, consider creating room accents yourself - enlist children to help, as well. While the possibilities are endless, here are a few ideas - At an arts and crafts store, get several stretched canvases in different sizes, and paint them in fall colors: they could each be a color blok, or do simple hand, leaf, or foot prints in fall colors on them. At a fabric store, find a tapestry print in autumn colors or pattern, and make a wall hanging by hemming all four sides, including a rod pocket at the top for hanging. Or just as soon as the leaves begin changing, get out your digital camera, take lots of fall pictures and make a big collage or find a few single pictures to blow up and frame.

Of all the seasons, fall has the coziest, warmest color choices and sensibilities - and coming up with decorating ideas for your bedroom can be a blast! Have fun decorating, and make some fall snacks to go with your projects - a pumpkin pie or apple crisp would be a great reward for a job well done!
