One of the obvious hot items is pumpkins! Nearly every family across the Midwest buys multiple pumpkins for the fall season. Decorating their homes inside and outside with pumpkins is a common fall theme. Many farmers and country folk can grow a patch of pumpkins and profit greatly from their sale in the fall. Pumpkins of all sorts can be found at a farmer's market. Look for white pumpkins, miniature pumpkins, flat pumpkins and oblong pumpkins. There is more than just the standard round orange pumpkin of the generations past grown these days!
Another fall favorite at any farmer's market or produce stand is Chrysanthemums. These beautiful fall blooming perennials adorn nearly every yard or porch. Mums go along great with the fall colors and typically come in shades of red, orange and yellow. A potted mum can cheer up any fading landscape as the blooms of summer disappear into the fall.
Corn stalks tied together to make corn shucks also appear at many farmers market. Many homeowners love to decorate for fall, and a bunch of corn stalks tied together remind people of the great fall bounty. The farming community has plenty of corn, so they love to sell the extra off at a local farmers market.
Squash is another hot fall item. Along with pumpkins and gourds, squash is often sold at a farmer's market. Use the squash for decoration if you'd like and then enjoy it when you choose! Squash is an extremely healthy food, so eat up!
You can also find gourds of almost every shape, size and color across Midwest farmer's markets. Gourds are fun for kids to play with as well as fun to decorate with. If you decorate your house inside, why not find a decorative bowl to fill with the most interesting gourds you can find!
Some farmer's even sell of straw bales at a farmer's market in the fall. Many homeowners love to decorate with a straw bale for a scarecrow or their pumpkins to sit on! What's even better about straw is that when you are done you can use it for bedding for your pets! They love to sleep in a cozy bed of straw!
Another great find at a fall farmer's market is home made wreaths, garlands and swags. Many country folk love to craft and flower arranging is a greatly appreciated skill. You can find some beautiful home made decorations for a great price at a farmer's market in the autumn season.
One more fun find in a fall farmers market is Indian Corn. If you have never seen this stuff, it is so fun to look at. The many colors of Indian Corn bring much interest to the subject. Try placing some Indian Corn around your home in the fall and see the conversations that they may bring!
At any fall farmer's market you will find many interesting pieces. You can be sure that you will find many farmers bringing in their final loads of produce before plowing the gardens over. As the growing season ends, the farmer's market vendors will love to spend their last few times at the market selling you exciting merchandise! You just never know exactly what treasure you may find just around the corner!
