Fall Fashion 2008 RTW

Donna Karan's fall 2008 collection was a major hit in New York's fashion week. The main concept of her new line is bohemian. Think 60's eclectic with a modern flair. Browns and blacks were the main color, with splashes of spring brights. Chunky sweaters, stillettos, and ankle boots also accentuated the new line.

The main pieces to bring about the Bohemian look were peasant dresses. My personal favorites were mainly black and satin with bright stripes across the chest and hem. The stripes varied in color from greens to pinks to golds and were all metallic. Other peasant dresses featured the classic polka dot pattern that are very reminiscent of 1960's Haight & Ashbury. The dresses were frequently paired with chunky sweaters and ankle boots. So remember to recycle these from your fall 2007 wardrobe! Karan also paired the dresses frequently with gray tights. Some were also featured with tied anklet stillettos.

Other features of this collection that caught my eye were the dress pants. They were very loose in nature and wide legged. Most were shown in black. I also loved their waist length coats, as they really help to slim down a wider waist. The boucle' bomber was also eye catching.

The one detail I was not very fond of was the fringe. It seemed a little wide for my taste, reminding me more of a shag rug. The fringe was especially highlighted on dresses. There were a couple of dresses that were completely donned in it.

Overall, the DKNY collection was put together well, with many contrasting lines and patterns. It seemed a little too contrasting compared to Karan's past lines, but it worked for me. I love a woman who isn't afraid to break comfort zones and who strives for a fabulous urban look.
