One thing New York is famous for is apples and many fall festivals mean apple festivals all over the state, especially in the North. Check some of these out and have a great time
Come to Wyoming. Wyoming New York that is, this September( this year the 24, 25 ) for their annual AppleUmpkin Festival http://www.appleumpkin.com/. You can guess where the name comes from Wyoming is located in Western New York State in Wyoming County, not far from Buffalo. For a village of about 500 people, they sure know how to put on a fall festival. There will be a craft show, street entertainment, and more local food than you can shake a stick at.
Everyone has heard of Cooperstown, New York. The baseball hall of fame is here. But that is not all that goes on. This September on the 24th and 25th you can come to The Cooperstown Rotary AppleFes. It takes place at the Fly Creek Cider Mill, http://www.flycreekcidermill.com/ and since September is apple picking time, you can pick you own or enjoy apple cider right out of the presses. And be sure to check out their restaurant and bakery.
In October, on October 1st actually, there is a one day artist festival in Warwick New York. http://www.warwickapplefest.com/ And that is not all There is entertainment, rides and games and an unbelievable amount of food.
Later on in Oct, on the 7th and 8th there is another fall festival in LaFayette, New York http://www.lafayetteapplefest.org/about.html LaFayett is located in Onondaga County in the east-central part of the State. They have a huge craft show, an apple pie competition,
The same weekend there is another festival, the Apple Festival & Craft Show at Goold Orchards. in the Town of Schodack, New York. http://www.goold.com/festival.html Schodack is in Rensselaer County, which is right next to the State Capital of Albany, As a matter of fact, if you come by train the Albany Station is in Rensselaer County. There is a crafts fair, food drink and everything apple.
Jordan New York is located in Onondaga County, on the Erie Canal. This fall on September 15, 16,and 17 they will have their annual Fall Festival with free entertainment, crafts, pumpkin painting and a greased pole climbing contest
New York is more then apples. Up State has many farms raising sheep, alpacas, and llamas among other wool producing animals In the fall, in the Hudson Valley, is the New York Sheep and Wool Festival. This year it is on October 21st and 22nd. This is no small event. There are many demonstrations and exhibits of the different animals. Also you can watch a sheep dog trial, learn how to spin yarn, enjoy a wine tasting and much, much more.
Up State is not the only place in New York that celebrates Fall. Wildwood State Park on Long. Island http://nysparks.state.ny.us/parks/info.asp?parkID=52 has a great fall festival in September 30, complete with Native America dancers.
And again on Long Island, in Captree State Park there is another fall festival http://nysparks.state.ny.us/parks/info.asp?parkID=151, on September 16, you can come for the Fall Harvest & Seafood Festival. They have everything from pony rides, to a crab race.
If you plan to be in Manhattan from September 27th to October 2nd, make time to come to City Center http://www.citycenter.org/events/event_detail.cfm?event_code=DAN06 for their fall festival. There will be more than 30 dance companies performing and you get a chance to mingle with the performers in the atrium.
