Fall in Georgia: Autumn Poetry

A Poem for Fall

Bridgitte Williams

Temperatures dropping out of the nineties,

let's us here in Georgia know that fall is coming.

We are now counting the days off,

until our air conditioners can stop running.

All will soon buried under

a thick blanket of orange pine straw.

Some lawns may not again be seen

until the winter's first thaw.

No more walking around the yard barefoot.

Too many prickly pine cones for that!

I think we will be having a cold winter.

Just look at that thick fur coat growing on the cat!

The squirrels look like Eskimos.

All bushy and fluffy with jaws full.

Nuts and acorns gathering.

Isn't it wonderful?

Here come the fall leaves falling

to set the autumn stage.

Hear the leaf blowers calling and

everyone going into a leaf raking rage.

Ah, that fall.

Brisk, cool and frisky breeze.

Just don't get too happy.

Soon, you know, we'll all freeze!
