Fall Hikes for Adults in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado

Sandy James

The autumn colors are almost at peak in the San Juan Mountains in southwestern Colorado, and it's a great time for hiking. The Montrose Recreation District is hosting two fall hikes for adults 50 and over. This is a great way to meet others and enjoy the fabulous fall scenery in the San Juan Mountains.

The two hikes that you can sign up for are:

Friday, October 7, 2011 on Miller Mesa just outside Ridgway

Thursday, November 10, 2011 at the James M Robb Colorado River State Park

It's recommended that you bring a brown bag lunch, sunscreen, water, a light jacket, and make sure you're wearing comfortable walking shoes or hiking boots. Both hiking trips are a great way to stay in shape, meet new friends, and breathe the fresh air of the San Juan Mountains.

Both hikes will meet at the Senior Center, 1800 Pavilion Drive in Montrose and you need to be there by 8:15 AM. The plan is to return to the Senior Center by 3 PM and the cost for each hike is $17.

If interested in either of these hikes, please call the Montrose Recreation District at 970 249-7705.
