Fall Hip Hop Music Preview

Jerrard Ellerbe
If you are a rap/hip-hop music head like I am, then you know that the material that has been coming out the past couple of years has been below average at best. This upcoming fall season has a lineup of some of the biggest names in rap & hip-hop that will be releasing new material and hopefully resurrecting a genre that has declined over the years.

Ludacris
Release Therapy
(September)

He's got a new haircut and a new style for is fifth LP, which should already be in stores by now. Money Maker, the first single off of Release Therapy is another catchy track by Luda that should find its way to every strip club in America. On this Album, Ludacris makes the effort to become more personal with his fans with songs like 'Mouths to Feed', 'Tell it like it is', and 'Runaway Love'. Time will tell if this album will have more success than his previous four albums.

Diddy
Press Play
(October 17)

There is no argument that the Bad Boy empire is no longer a strength in Rap/Hip-Hop music. However, Diddy - or whatever he calls himself these days - will try to resurrect his slumping label with 'Press Play'. 'Come to Me', the first single off the album, has already made its way to radio and television. It's much easier to watch the video since the beautiful Nicole Sherzinger is featured on the song, but will the rest of the album be as appealing?

Birdman & Lil Wayne
Like Father Like Son
(October 31)

Lil Wayne and the Birdman have enjoyed huge success from their solo LP's, but will join forces on 'Like Father Like Son' to continue the success and keep Cash Money's name alive in 2007.

Talib Kweli
Ear Drum
(November 7)

It baffles me why Kweli doesn't get the recognition and record sells like he should. Ear Drum, the third solo LP from Talib Kweli, could be the album that finally puts him on the map.

The Game
The Doctors Advocate
(November 14)

Most hip-hop artist come out blazing on their first LP, only to fall victim to the sophomore jinx. Can The Game break the curse and deliver another successful West Coast album? Dr. Dre will be backing the Compton native along with producers such as Kanye West and Just Blaze.

Nas
Hip-Hop is Dead…The N
(November 21)

Perhaps the most slept-on MC in the history of rap/hip-hop music, Nasir Ola Duru Jones will release his 9th solo album with Def Jam records. The Queens Bridge MC snatched some big names such as Dr. Dre, Scott Storch, The Neptunes, and DJ Premiere to produce the anticipated album which is backed by Jay-Z, Nas' former rival turned business partner.

Mos Def
Tru3 Magic
(November)

Mos Def's highly anticipated third solo album should be a success with producers like Kanye West, Pharrell Williams, and Q-Tip. The confirmed tracks for Tru3 Magic include 'Boogie Man' and 'There is a Way'.

Snoop Doog
The Blue Carpet Treatment
(November 21)

Eight albums and still going for big Snoop. The Blue Carpet Treatment is expected to be vintage Snoop Dogg material, away from the melodic and mainstream Rhythm and Gangsta album that was previously released. Dr. Dre and Will.i.am are just two of the many producers that has been tagged for this album. Hopefully Snoop doesn't disappoint the fans with another mediocre LP.

I think Talib's Ear Drum is delayed till Jan 07. I agree, why doesnt he get more recognition? On the other hand, at least he's not played out and over-exposed.

At the time, there was no indication on a release date for Jay-Z's new album.
