Fall Makeup Trends and How to Use Them for Your Wedding

Kathy Speers
The reports are in from the major fashion portals: this Fall's IT look is all about glamour.

By glamour, they mean classic. Think bold lipsticks in shades of red and brown with tons of lashes and smokey eyes with pale lips.

For Fall brides, try using these trends to your advantage. Go with soft pink hues for eyes and cheeks and subtle lips in a flattering nude. This look is understated and classy and brings out a bride's natural beauty.

Try:
for face: Before anything goes on I recommend a foundation primer. This gets your face ready by filling in any pockets/pores/lines/uneveness so that foundation has a smooth surface to set. I love Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer, which feels like silk and always makes me feel photo-ready. Laura Mercier Foundation Primer and Bare Escentuals bare vitamins Prime Time are also good bets. Next, try to use a foundation you're used to or go with one of the mineral foundations that are popular now. I use Bare Escentuals bareMinerals in Medium Beige as I have golden undertones. Philosophy has a great foundation powder too: The Supernatural Airbrushed Canvas.

for cheeks--One of my favorites is Benefit's 10: it's a duo of pink blush and bronzer. Glides on beautifully for a slightly sunkissed look that sculpts cheekbones out of nowhere. If I forego foundation that day I at LEAST use this blusher. Two other great ones to try are Smashbox O-GLOW, which is clear and works by reacting with your own skin's chemistry to turn your cheeks the color you naturally blush; also worth your time is Tarte Cheek Stain in, of course!, Blushing Bride.

for eyes-- For staying power, use cream shadows, like Clarins Soft Cream Eye Colour in Sugar Pink. Pair up pinks for a deeper finish: try MAC Eyeshadow in Pen n Pink and MAC Eyeshadow in Cranberry. Finish off with waterproof black mascara: MAC Splashproof Lash in Blacksplash or Dior Diorshow Waterproof Mascara in Black.

for lips--If you're into lip gloss your best bets are NARS Lip Gloss and Lip Stain duo in Turkish Delight and Sayonara or (for a deeper color) Kisses and Pampa. Also very pretty is Smashbox Lip Enhancing Gloss in Pixel or Surge. For lovers of lipstick like yours truly, try NARS lipstick in Pigalle and I absolutely loooooooove Benefit Silky-Finish Lipsticks. Try it in Skinny Dip or Good-to-Go. But honestly, they have a host of gorgeous colors to choose from.

Remember to try different looks for the big day. Use the makeup artists at cosmetics counters in department storesor specialty cosmetics stores like Sephora or MAC to try looks you might not normally do on yourself. Bare Escentuals has shops in the Chicago are too: I highly recommend you stop by one of these havens.

These makeup pros can often suggest a look that is a fresher you or a more daring you, taking into consideration your likes and dislikes, skintone, eye and hair color, etc. Even if you choose not to use a makeup artist for your wedding, use their expertise when trying out what look you want and then buy the makeup so you can replicate it on your own. If nothing else, you get ideas for gorgeous night-on-the-town makeup...
