Fall Nail Trend: Metallic, Magnetic and Red

Rebecca Bardelli

As summer turns to fall, we begin to paint our fingernails rather than our toenails. With each new season, I find it exciting to shop for new items. They don't have to be expensive, just new and trendy. Nail polish is a simple yet sensational item to add to my fall collection. Are your nails colored for fall? Let's find out as we highlight three of the top nail trends for the fall of 2011.

Metallic Nails

I am attracted to metallic colors since they shimmer and shine like precious metals. I was delighted to find out that metallic nails were a fall trend. Just as metallic eye shadow is a fall trend, so is metallic nail polish. Matching metallic eye shadow with metallic nail polish can easily be achieved for a uniform look. OPI has a great selection of metallic nail polish, consisting of 21 colors. Your Royal Shine-ness is a soft silver color, perfect for a princess. DS Glow and DS illuminate are both copper colors, similar to that of a shimmering pumpkin. Do I have to choose just one color? Copper will go great with my orange hued shirts, while silver will compliment my gray shirts and eyeliner.

Magnetic Nail Polish

Magnetic nail polish is going to attract you with a magnetic pull. It definitely got my attention since I have never seen a product quite like it. LCN offers a line of magnetic nail polish in eight attractive shades. To achieve a design, you must apply a thick layer of polish. After applying the polish, you must hold a LCN magnet over the surface of painted nails for 10 seconds. After those 10 seconds are up, you will see that the magnet pushed away the polish beneath it in order to create a pattern. Diagonal and star magnets are both available. I must say that I am looking forward to trying this imaginative creation in Copper Seduction and Green Temptation. The Green Temptation will match perfectly with the bright green pair of skinny jeans on my wish list.

Red Nail Polish

Celebrities such as Molly McQueen, Leona Lewis, Lindsay Lohan and Ashlee Simpson were all found wearing red nail polish. With several celebrities coloring their nails in red polish, it's no surprise that red is a fall polish trend. Walgreens offers an inexpensive brand of nail polish, called Sinful Colors. Although the nail polish is normally $2, I picked several up while they were on sale for $1. Two of the colors I purchased were beautiful shades of red. One is called Under 18, which is a shimmering reddish-pink. The other is called Rich in Heart, which is a rich, deep red that shimmers in the sun. With more than 60 colors to choose from, you are sure to find at least one color to add to your fall collection. In my opinion the price can't be beat for the quality. If you find several colors you have to have, you don't have to feel guilty since you can buy five bottles for the price you would have spent on one or two of another brand.

Shop online or shop in the store. Are your nails colored for fall? My nails are colored for fall thanks to Sinful Colors. My husband's favorite color is red, which is why I ended up with two shades of red rather than one. Red will carry over perfectly into the winter as Valentine's Day is all about red.

I totally love the metallics! (even though I know I am too old to be wearing them) I am rockin' metallic red right now. Last week was silver :)
