The first video that Fall Out Boy produced was in the year of 2003. This video is based off the song Grand Theft Autumn/Where is Your Boy. This song is actually one of their first singles. This song is about love, actually. It's about a female and male that are close friends. In the song, the male questions the female's current boyfriend and loyalty. The male actually wants to be part of the female's life in the video, but feels that he may not be worthy enough. Nevertheless, the video runs along the same vein as the lyrics. The video is about a boy that was caught spying on a girl, but the girl shows interest in him. In the video, you get the impression that maybe everything was a dream, but it turns out that it wasn't. Aw. How sweet. The next song that came out in 2003 was called Dead on Arrival. This was Fall Out Boy's second single. This music video is simply composed of different clips of the bands, and shows them performing at different areas live. Supposedly, the song was to express the feelings of homesickness and loneliness that the boys were feeling while on tour.
In 2003, Saturday was also another single that came out from Fall Out Boy. The video for Saturday show two of the band members going on a rampage and killing the other band members in the band, as well as others. In the video, you realize that they are actually a Queen of Hearts with the dead bodies. It turns out that the two boys were actually one person. If you've ever seen the movie The Secret Window, then you know exactly what this video is talking about. Creepy stuff. Well, in the end of Saturday, the boy kills himself, as he tries to kill the other guy...which in the end, was merely his own self. What's weird about this video is that the main character is killing the other people with his hands, which took the shape of a gun, but not with a real gun. The song for Saturday seems to talk about conflicting feelings, and also mentions the members of the band in the video. But the video is a little disturbing, if you ask me.
Now, for the song that everyone knows: Sugar, We're Goin' Down, which came out in 2005. The video is about a boy with antlers, trying to fit into his community. Of course, everyone rejects him, but eventually the boy with antlers meets a young lady who shows interest in him. The young lady's father doesn't like this strange boy, so the young man tries to sever his antlers in an attempt to be normal, but his female companion saves him from this. Later on in the video, the young lady's father tries to kill the boy with antlers, but as fate would have it, the father gets run over by a car. (Karma, much?) He's still alive, though. What's strange is that when the boy with antlers gets closer to the dead father, he finds that the father has deer hooves. And then the dad accepts the boy, and everything is well with the world.
In the year of 2005, Fall Out Boy came out with another single known as Dance, Dance. The video shows the band members singing at what appears to be a homecoming dance. But in the video, you see the band members as a more unpopular looking squad. The video was actually filmed in Salesian High School which is in New York. When the video begins for Dance, Dance, you see a band member asking a girl to the homecoming dance. In 2006, Fall Out Boy came out with a video called A Little Less Sixteen Candles, a Little More Touch Me...or you can just call it Sixteen Candles. The video for this song is somewhat dark, and involves vampires. In the end of the video, you see a showdown between the vampires and the band, but then it is realized that the police officers are vampires themselves. (That doesn't much help your odds, does it?) A lot of the images from the Sixteen Candles video are spin-offs of other horror movies.
The song, "This Ain't A Scene, It's an Arms Race," which made its debut in 2006, was supposedly about the frustration of one of the band members about the 'emo scene'. He told the rolling stones that: ""There may be other songs on the record that would be bigger radio hits, but this one had the right message." The video begins with the end of the Dance, Dance video. In the video, you realize that the whole Dance, Dance video was just a fluke; all the fans were only cardboard. Then the video continues with showing that they appreciate hip-hop culture. Then one of the band members goes through a series of problems, from having his nude pictures revealed, to having someone die after getting launched out a window by Fat Joe. There's so many bizarre events happening here, and some of it simply doesn't make sense. Seth Green even makes an appearance later on in the video, surprisingly. At the end of the video, the man who died wakes up, and realizes that everything was a dream. Weird.
In 2007, Fall Out Boy came out with The Carpal Tunnel of Love. The video is about these little chipmunk like things that resemble the band members called Happy Tree Friends. I think they're bears, actually. At the end of the video, the characters are, sadly, led to different accidental deaths. Morbid, but true. Poor little tree bears...or whatever they were. Also in 2007, Fall Out boy came out with Thanks for the Memories, which was intentionally spelled wrong as the band would have it. The song is about a relationship that is romantic, but remains mostly physical. The video has been criticized for having too much product placement, which includes Chevy Tahoe, TAG body sprays, and Nokia XpressMusic phone.
There are lots of followers for Fall Out Boy. And no matter how strange their videos may seem to those who don't care to understand, the music is always great and entertaining, and we love that. We just couldn't live without it.
