Regal majesty she stands proudly face to the sun.
Golden hair a glory she bows and sways.
Face lovely as she dances her ballet,
Sisters smile they follow her lead.
Winds may blow and rains may seek,
Storms try to topple her at her peak.
She doesn't care she's supported there,
Gentle hands hold her closely tight.
Staked with love until her time is through.
Golden glory begins to fade,
Sparrows and finches eat and parade.
Sacrificing her Godly fruit,
Seeds to feed as nature loots.
Now her graceful head is bowed,
As I pray for her out loud.
Thank you God for breathtaking beauty,
Thank you for the scene outside my window,
For her graceful majestic stoic duty.
Faded glory drooping head,
She is not really dead.
Seeds will remain for spring,
To start it all over again.
I love the sunflowers in my yard. I plant them outside of my dining room window and out by the patio. I love to watch the finches and other birds frantically feeding on the sunflower seeds. They turn upside down and cling to their flowers.
My husband helped me stake them up after a storm and their tenacious roots took hold and continued their growth through the summer. He knows how much they mean to me.
In spite of their dying they still stand proud although drooping. Their job is done and they will rise again in the summer. They remind me of the elders in my life. I too am aging. If we live we all get older everyday. It is not one of my favorite things, but it is definitely a natural process. I do believe though that we will rise up again on the other side in heaven. Nature helps us to see and accept this as part of life.
