For people who have existing skin problems, this difference in temperature can causes flare-ups and breakouts. I have Rosacea, for example, and I find that the constant variability of the temperatures causes frequent break outs.
Do you break out constantly, have a chronic skin problem, or have sensitive skin? If so, then you should take extra special care of your skin during this time. Here are some tips for fall skin care basics.
Drink plenty of water. This is a good idea no matter the season. Water is good for your body and your skin. Dehydration can cause your skin to dry out and flake. If you want your skin to be able to withstand the changing seasons, water is an excellent place to start.
Change your routine. Summer skin care routines are focused on controlling oil and helping your skin resist the heat and sun. Fall skin care routines should be designed to help balance your skin. One day may be hot, another may be cold. Your goal is to help your skin achieve a state of calm and comfort.
To do this, look for balancing products with a slightly thicker moisturizer than what you were using in the summer. Stay within your skin type on the moisturizer. If your skin is naturally oily, you won't want a moisturizer with oil. Just find non oily products that are a little more substantial.
Pay attention to sun care. Protecting your skin from the sun isn't just for the summer. Just because the weather is colder doesn't mean that you can't get sun damage. If the SPF products you were using in the summer were too harsh for the colder climate, switch products. But definitely don't skip this step.
Eat for skin health. In general, your skin needs certain vitamins and minerals to perform at its best. Take a multivitamin and eat a balanced and healthy diet. This will help your skin look great and minimize the chances that the changing temperatures will even have an effect on how your skin looks.
