Fall Snow Storm 2011

Julie Wimmer
Most of us on the east coast are scratching our heads as we turn the heat on, some of us for the first time since last winter. Snow fall is predicted for the Northern East Coast, and we haven't even trick or treated yet for Halloween.

As we brace ourselves for the white stuff, which will probably be a lot of slush since it is still fall and the temps are not dropping that low, curiosity does make us wonder: when was the last time it snowed on the east coast before Halloween?

Well, it's not that easy to answer since each city in the east is different. For instance, it has not snowed in October in New York City since 1952. And as we all know, a lot of cities, like New York, shut down when there is a small amount of snow. Hopefully this won't be the case tomorrow.

The biggest concern is power being knocked out because of branches becoming too heavy since most of the autumn leaves have yet to fall. Please be careful out there. A small amount of wet snow can be deceiving and dangerous.

Airlines have already canceled flights and cities have salt trucks and winter workers on hold.

I was in Kauai when we heard about this. It's way too early for that much snow!

I remember a snowy Halloween in Ohio as a child, but I can't recall the exact year. It was just light snow, though. I am not ready for winter. :(

Seems too early in the year for snow! None in the forecast for us in the mid-US!

Where's that global warming when you need it? Clearly, the climate is not warming, so why do we have those oppressive taxes and emissions regulations still on the books?

A far cry from what I experience in Asia. Generally, hot, hotter and hottest - the three seasons we have! Though Bangkok is almost floating now! siva
