Fall Table Decorating Idea: Halloween Tree

If you've got kids, forget fancy fall centerpieces for your table. This year, kill two birds with one stone with a Halloween tree table decorating idea. Not only will your small kids have tons of fun making this easy fall craft, you can keep it on your table as a Halloween decoration for weeks.

Make a Halloween Tree: The Perfect Table Decoration

To make your Halloween tree, you'll need an empty flower pot, the perfect branch, some rocks, and Halloween ornaments. Select a branch for your table decoration that can support a number of Halloween ornaments. Then place it inside of a medium-sized clay or plastic, clay colored, flower pot. The clay is a nice color for your Halloween tree; however, another idea is to decorate your pot using Halloween stencils. Once you've inserted your branch, add small to medium-sized rocks collected from your yard to weigh it down and keep it fixed inside your pot. If your budget allows or if you're feeling particularly creative, you can spray paint the rocks orange and black. Once your Halloween tree is secure in your pot, you can begin designing your Halloween ornaments.

Halloween Ornaments for Your Table Decoration

Ghosts are a great Halloween ornament idea. To make a ghost you'll need a white paper towel. Wad up a small ball of tissue and center it on your paper towel. This will be the ghost's head. Then fold your paper towel over the ball of tissue. Secure the ghost head with a rubber band. Make a face for your ghost. Then sew a small loop in the top of the ghost's head. Use paper clips or ornament hooks to hook your ghost onto your Halloween tree.

Make black cats, pumpkins, and bat ornaments for your fall table decoration by printing out Halloween stencils onto cardstock. Before you print, shrink the image by opening the image in Paint and reducing the size. Then print at least two copies of each image. Cut out both copies and glue back to back to make a double-sided Halloween ornament. Use a hole puncher to punch a hole in the top (for bats, punch the hole along the bottom or on one wing) and then hook a paper click through the loop and hang on your Halloween tree. Make as many Halloween ornaments as your fall table decoration will support.

I love this idea! Oh, and your sentence "If you've got kids, forget fancy fall centerpieces for your table" is so true! I don't remember that last time I had a tablecloth that wasn't made out of paper.
