Emergent Reader and Kindergarten Math Connections

Nannette Richford
Fall themed mini books provide Kindergarten students with experience with books. These free printable fall mini books make the perfect addition to your curriculum while providing hands-on experience your students are sure to love. As a teacher myself, I know how difficult it can be to find resources. I have hand chosen these books for both quality and educational value.

Leaves are Falling is a fall emergent reader that focuses on color identification. Simply print and assemble this pdf document to create an attractive book for your Kindergarten students. Simple leaf design allows for little hands to color within the lines with ease.

Some Apples are Red also focuses on color identification with predictable text. Available as a full sheet book for Circle Time or half sheet minibooks for individual practice, this book is has a clean design that is easy for young hands to color. Ideal for fall apple themes, this book also allows for comparing and contrasting apples.

Check out Little Giraffe's Teaching Ideas for a "Pumpkin Sequencing" minibook, "Orange Pumpkin, Orange Pumpkin, What Do You See?", "The Story of the Pumpkin" and "Where is Pumpkin"-- a delightful book that teaches positional vocabulary. The site also contains literature connections, math, science and art connections and a host of poems, games and stories to delight Kindergarteners. Don't overlook the valuable resources on this site for your pumpkin unit this fall.

Print and assemble The Scarecrow a Primary Success publication. This adorable book features two black birds visiting the scarecrow. Giggles are sure to ensure when the scarecrow chases them away.

Don't forget to visit Old MacDonald's Farm for tons of farm resources. This site has links to nearly everything you can think of to integrate with your farm unit. Adorable poems, cute art projects, word walls, pocket chart ideas and printable worksheets are not the only advantage of this site. Scroll to the bottom and check out the huge list of other resources.

Whatever you decide to use as your fall theme, these sites have more ideas than you can ever use. So forget about searching the Internet for appropriate sources and spend some time browsing these sites. Although I can point you in the right direction, I'm afraid the difficult decision of just which minibook and fall theme resources you want to use is up to you. Have fun and happy fall!
